Показать описание
Plastic shopping bags can be re-purposed into plarn. Plarn is short for plastic yarn. This sturdy plastic yarn can be used to crochet, knit, braid and weave projects including tote bags, rugs, doormats. coasters, hats, baskets and more. But before you can get to work creating something, first you must make it.

To make plarn, plastic shopping bags are cut into strips and joined together to make a long continuous strand of plastic yarn. Watch this video tutorial and read on for a photo tutorial with step-by-step instructions on how to make plastic yarn.

This is incredibly helpful.

I'm planning to make blankets from plarn for a homeless charity near me to earn my scouts of the world world (a bit like the Eagle Scout for British scouts) and this is the easiest way I have seen it down so far

I actually had this as a passing thought. Like, what if I made a bag made out of sack strips or plastic? So here I am now, learning how to make a plastic ball of yarn and start crocheting tote bags and other projects. Gotta save mother earth y'all.

My cat hates every bed I've bought for her but will sleep on a plastic bag all day, I'm going to see if she'll sleep in a little basket if I make it out of plarn. Thanks!

I crochet around the plarn. It makes the bags or baskets more stiff and thick. Plus it's a fun activity.

I recently made some plarn. Not all of it was from plastic grocery bags. The plastic fumes made me sick. I'm concerned about concentrating 300-700 plastic bags in a 'small' area for sleeping mats, and possible toxicity levels.

Hi! I’m just wondering what are some examples what to do with the prices you can’t use. Like I know you can stuff something but… what can I stuff?

Does anyone think this will work with foil crisps/potato chips bags? I’m thinking of using the foil bags to make wee nests for wildlife casualties assuming they’ll provide warmth?

Maybe you could make pillows too. The plastic bags could be the stuffing.

Any thoughts about making plarn out of the thicker plastic bags from Target, Wal-Mart etc.? I find these much harder to knit or crochet with yet these are what I have so many of.

what kind of plastic bags are suitable to use for longevity? biodegradable, oxo-degradable, oxo-biodegradable, or other?

I have been making plarn for a little while now but I don't know how to connect one ball of plarn to the next ball. Have you been able to connect two balls of plarn?
