My gay reaction to visiting Kaveh and Alhaitham in Alhaitham's house!!

Did you notice the last mini-chapter in Alhaitham's story quest is titled "Pride and Prejudice"?
Knowing hoyo's love of making pop culture references I'd like to think they intentionally pick that title to drive home the reference of Jane Austen's book of the same title. That novel is a story about a man who is very logical, much like Alhaitham, who is in love with someone who's passionate and idealistic, like Kaveh.
Hoyo is trying to be smooth. Lol

Ah, Alhaitham and Kaveh... Spoilers for Alhaitham's character stories: he is pretty complimentary of Kaveh, calling him a fellow genius and a "mirror that allows [Alhaitham] to understand a perspective on the world different than his own". Such with the mirroring, they have reverse (?) colour schemes, absolutely mirrored character descriptions and Kaveh's title includes the word "*reflection*".

Imo there relationship is pretty heavily implied, especially the lines:
Alhaitham: "oh, so I have to bring you along and then buy you drinks?"
Kaveh: *immediately lighting up* "of course!"

Some subtle references also blew my mind. Alhaitham's constellation is Vultur Volans, known as such to Greek and Romans in ancient times. And I was really surprised when I realized that back then, because it was essentially a symbol of male homosexuality. Before being merged into Acquila, it was called Antinous. A gay Roman emperor Hadrian named that constellation after his lover (Antinous). And Hadrian made his love very clear, so Antinous was deified and worshipped after his premature death, hence the constellation. I found it really interesting that Hoyoverse chose a constellation specifically meaning male homosexuality. I mean, I don't expect people to see "Vultur Volans" and immediately realize "Oh wait, that's the gay constellation!", so it's very subtle, but my god I like the detail! :D

I also enjoyed how they called this part "Pride and Prejudice", but I believe someone already mentioned that!

Also, Alhaitham’s last thoughts of the cutscene clearly show that while he looks like he doesn’t care much, he actually takes Kaveh’s demands seriously, shown by how he does reflect on cleaning up the books

My boyfriend and I are both bi, and he likes to watch me play genshin. I showed him this cutscene and his eyes bugged out, saying "it isn't even subtle" 😂

Alhaitham and Kaveh are the type of characters you can find in the Danmei genre in China. It's very popular in China actually. By law, they can only "imply heavily" the nature of their relationship (people are blind if they cannot see that), they just can't outright say it. Some life action chinese dramas uses the characters from the original Danmei novels but to be safe, they either make the relationship as "just bestfriends" or they change the gender of the one of the partner in the relationship.

They're practically canon. You'd have to be blind or straight up in denial if you can't see the way they are hinting to their relationship being more than just close friends

If you played the newest story quest, the NPC Jeht has different reactions to Aether and Lumine. This is not a spoiler but basically, she only flirts with Lumine but treats Aether as a friend. So, yeah, MHY is trying to make it more obvious.

They literally sound like my parents who have been married 20+ years, so this kind of dynamic feels really familiar to me😂 at the end of the day they're still gonna cuddle together on the couch💕

They are the sun/moon or gold/silver dynamic I’ve wanted in this game for a long time. 😭 They oppose each other so much that it make sense. It’s actually like watching the start of an enemies to lovers book where they actually can’t stand each other but most of their thoughts are about the other. Haitham’s voice lines just about proves that.

(Also i headcannon that Kaveh’s “drunken scribbling” are sketches of Haitham or his true thoughts on him. Which is why he doesn’t even want Haitham to see or know about them.)
(And when you use Nahida’s mind reading on Haitham, he is actually talking about the books Kaveh was complaining about and wants to clean them up. So he actually does listen to what he says.)

Alhaitham would be the guy who can't see the point why any non-heterosexual relationships won't make sense - he cares only about logic. And that's the crazy part - Kaveh is anything but, yet he carries this guy home when he's drunk, covers his tavern tabs, basically keeping an eye on him, let him change things in his house although he acts verbally against it, and he teases him all the time - something very unproductive and a waste of time for the busy feeble scholar. When they were leaked I thought "what the hell is this most popular ship trope doing here", and I read the tavern board fights. Kaveh thought no one knew he lives with Alhaitham... While the guy takes out their interlocked key out in public every few minutes like he's proud of it. Everyone knows, Kaveh. We know you're roommates.

Hoyoverse has been doing this from the start, with Ningguang and Beidou being the first ones that come to my mind.
I agree you kind of have to be in denial to not get the hints about Alhaitham and Kaveh being a couple. Have you seen how much Alhaitham talks about Kaveh? He might owe him rent but at the same time Kaveh lives rent free in Alhaitham's mind.

8:04 Alhaithams thoughts are actually relevant to their relationship. Previously we've heard Kaveh complain that there are books lying around that Alhaitham is not reading and that he should bring them out. Alhaitham thinking this exactly would imply that he is actually listening to Kaveh.
