Early on in my production director days in radio, I loved these jbl studio monitors we had because the bass was so rich and the sound was amazing (my 22 year old brain told me). After producing a few concert promos, I thought they came out awesome until i heard the mix while driving home on the radio. I was bummed! Listening to the concert ad on the air was painful. All that hard work and my vocals were overpowering everything.

Thank God for DAW technology (and this was back in 1999 on Session 8, a branch of protools). I reproduced the spot, but i had to use headphones (Sony MDR 7506) because we didn't have a flat response studio monitor. The Sony 7506 cans are great for mixing.

Hey Kyle, do you have a video on flat response headphones for mixing?

I mix audio in my home studio on the Event TR8 Powered Monitors (great speakers and unavailable to buy anymore😔.

The Sony 7506 headphones help when I work early in the morning or late night hours when i want to avoid problems with my family, lol!

What would be the best microphone for vocals and for picking up drums at the same time if you wanted to mic your drums with only one microphone also used for your vocals?
