In this video, I go over the process of generation of electron/hole pairs using light, and how to model that using differential equations.

This is part of my series on semiconductor physics (often called Electronics 1 at university). This is based on the book Semiconductor Physics and Devices by Donald Neamen, as well as the EECS 170A/174 courses taught at UC Irvine.

You have explained in the illustration concerning the photons excitation of the electrons to jump over the gap and be in the conducting band. I am designing a media of photon as big or bigger than the gap. When the light reflects on it, the photon frequency of sunlight and daylight will have a singular frequency of photon.

Is Gl the representation of the total number of generated electron-hole pairs, since it was the integration of the generation rate? Was the integral of G(z) with respect to z?

Hi! I'm watching your videos to help me study semiconductor physics at my university, and it happens, from time to time, that he gives us the intensity of the light to calculate the total current, said that we have all the data needed to calculate the non-light-related current, how do I calculate the G0? I=Io exp(..), you say total light at as the function of z (1:15), dou you mean total transmitted through the thickness of z?

5:08, shouldn't we integrate G(z) and also divide by "d" the thickness, units of both the equations in the box is not the same

I don't understand how you went from G(z) to GL could you perform the actual integration sir?
