An Iron Hands marine would wake up as a dreadnought and go "Ah hell yeah."

Imagine dying but they still ask you to go to work. Grimdark indeed.

An interesting advantage the contempor dreadnought had over other dreadnoughts, namely the casta-ferrum pattern, was the fact it was more human-like. It allowed for much more life-like movement.

Cassius only had his head, chest, and left arm left after a Tyranid battle. They threw him in a Dreadnought. Over 500 yrs he forgot the feeling of wind, the sound of breathing, the memory of a pain. All he knew was rage and war. In times he wasn't fighting all he can hear was the hum of the machinery in his dreadnought before getting put back into stasis.

Worth mentioning that this is not always the case. The Space Wolves have Bjorn the Fell Handed who fought with the Emperor and Leman Russ. Apparently he has a very jovial personality and is often sought for wisdom and expertise.

Imagine being a dreadnought waking up from a dream you had where two sisters of battle were cleaning your chatsis only to see you were being sent into battle tis was a shame too because they were twins

The most grim dark punishment I ever saw in 40k was when Huron had a marine who turned on him interned in a dreadnaught sarcophagus. But then never actually attached the sarcophagus to a dreadnaught and never put the marine in stasis. Huron just left the dude fully conscious in a box for eternity.

Bjorn the Fell Handed is a dreadnought from the Space Wolves that served during the Heresy before being put in a dreadnought. Every time the chapter feasts, they wake him up and he tells stories of Papa Russ.
He also exudes an aura that makes you want to bow to him, as seen when he teleported to the bridge of an Inquisitorial battleship, and the Grey Knight captain had to forcefully resist the overpowering urge to bow down.

And during the Heresy, it wasn’t just a heroic marine that’d get interred. The dreadnoughts were more common, thus, more marines were interred in them.

Talk about personifying the phrase "Only through death does service ends"

And now, a reminder there are Death Company dreadnoughts, and a moment of silence for their victims

"Oh no, brother Vicarius has been mortally wounded. His tactical knowledge is too vital to be lost, prepare the dreadnought!"

*immediately puts him in a coma for 1000 years*

They also are keepers of history. When a dreadnought dies the marines in the immediate area will go scorched earth if a dreadnought goes down

I want to add this possibility into a future Deathwatch campaign I'm constructing. If a PC is so wounded they can choose two fates, 1) Die and be given a glorious final stand, or most touching death, or 2) become a Dreadnought, sacrificing the entire character, and making it so the killteam must get you out of there. If successful, afterwards the player can choose to have the new dreadnought be there new PC, and be given a custom Character sheet, or have the Dreadnought be an NPC, voiced by the PC but controlled by GM, as a cheap ally they can bring to the mission, and create a new PC. I think that would be cool.

I still say this is the absolute raddest form of burial ever devised.

But what’s with iron hands dreadnoughts? By warhammer lore they’d theoretically love to be in those

I feel sorry for when one dies because then it's like an entire chunk of that chapters history was wiped from existence
