Too many drummers state whats right and wrong.   Appreciate the beauty in your observation of its variance.  Weedie is a hell of a drummer and has a very humble approach to teaching.

Luke, from your analysis of the clip, it is apparent that your approach and your understanding of the musical dialog is peripheral at best. You have taken your linear perspective and applied it to something without a context. He actually taught the patterns as modified in the class intentionally and explained it. Its an saying where i'm from which says, "give him a bowl of rice, so he will not disturb your grainery." sounds like you know a little, and presume alot..

Super AYCAC, if they played it like that, it's so you could say that that's the way it is played!

Weedie is a bad dude. Tradition is here to guide us not enslave us.

Luke Me...Unless you are of West African Lineage, I do not think you have the right nor authority to say whats traditional or not.   Lets face it, traditional has changed 1, 200 times since the rhythm was created.   Humble yourself kid, it will take you further in your walks in becoming a djembefola.

Amadou, the only linear thing, here, is the kenkeni. American tempo, not African. Then, you can philosophize as much as you need, yet, in the end, Djaa has been "retouched". If you need to question people's abilities, because that usually happens when one's out of arguments.

The kenkeni here is not original. It has been modified. The dundun too starts rearranged. People, choose your teachers WELL, they might lead you astray...

Luke is just jealous cuz he will NEVER play like Weedie! He will never even come close. He's just a little hater who's out of place!
