Man I'm so in awe with this record....easily the most drawn in I've ever been with a Perfume Genius album thus far. Literally cannot stop listening to it. Feeling a 9 for sure

This is the first Perfume Genius album that’s actually clicked with me.

Ugly Season instantly reminded me of classics like Kate Bush's The Dreaming and Cocteau Twins' Treasure. Not only in their abstract and experimental soundscapes, but in their raw and natural beauty that it's hard not to fall in love with. This won't be everyone's cup of tea, and it certainly wasn't mine at first, but just like the other two albums aforementioned, there's just something about this album that sticks with you and makes you appreciate it more and more with each listen. Another beautifully eerie and awed album by PG and another amazing progression from his previous work!

This the first Perfume Genius record to blow me away so of course Melon shrugs at it.

This is honestly one of my favorite albums this year, without a doubt my favorite PG record. It might be because dance and artpop are my favorite genres, but it helps that I adore the way he twists bends and forms new texture and explores new territory in pop. Björk, Kate Bush, Prince, and Joni Mitchell are my all time favorite musician and this album reminds me of all the things that made me fall in love with their music.

Typically I’ve enjoyed Perfume Genius’ more pop-oriented work but this really grabbed my attention. The atmosphere is amazing and the progression in dynamics is pretty satisfying. Also the title track is legit the best song on it IMO

I would put this in the same space as Fleet Foxes "Crack Up" (2017) and Bon Iver's "22, A Million" (2016).

They are "departure" "albums by established, highly regarded artists. Albums that break from the string of albums that preceded it, and challenge the audience in new ways.
