I agree. I have a similar concept.
So my son and I ran a small electrical contracting business. On the side we started toying with video and photography work.
We bounced around doing weddings, events, parties, work for our local county parks and recreation. The county sheriff’s department. County jail.
The list goes on and our objective was to gain experience. After several years we started approaching companies about doing product content for them.
We had good success and no complaints. It didn’t take long to realize that you have to add value to a company or they will not care to work with you.
We love the outdoors and hoped to find a way to make it in that field. I started my son shooting at age 4. He’s very knowledgeable about guns and related topics. I mentioned an American gun company to my son and said one day we will be working for them. My son said that will never happen because we are not big enough. They only work with well known people with a huge following. I said you don’t have to be the biggest you just have to be the best. Work on being the best. A couple years later we approached that company. They gave us a small project. Then another. Then they asked would we be interested in dropping a few of our clients and doing more of their work. Heck yeah! My son told them we are not that big yet. They said we are not after your following. We love your work. Now they want us to drop most all clients and focus solely on them. 😁
Our business really took off when I realized that you have to figure out how to add value to a company. When you can do that success will follow provided you are good at what you do.
