Janine Jansen (violin) & Folke Nauta (piano) perform from Violin Sonata in G, part I, composed by Claude Debussy.

She was 21 years old when she entered the studio in Amsterdam in 1999 together with pianist Folke Nauta. They performed the first movement of Debussy’s violin sonata with incredible transparency. After playing we knew Janine Jansen was one of a kind. A charismatic violinist who impressed with flawless technical know-how, and a great sound.

For us, Janine Jansen was still the daughter of the famous Dutch organist Jan Jansen and was born in Soest. Fortunately life can change rapidly. Only four years later Janine became a hype. In 2003 she signed a contract with Decca and she conquered the world. In 2010 she released the Debussy Sonata with her regular recital partner Itamar Golan. Her first chamber music cd Beau Soir was awarded gold. About the Debussy Sonata Janine Jansen once said: “The whole sound world has to be kind of up in the air. It needs this incredible transparency and sound, otherwise, the whole balance in the piece is gone. It's so flexible in its form, in its characters and in its moods. One needs to be able to change and adjust to each other in seconds, to follow each other and to move together in the most flexible way. I think (the Debussy) is probably one of most challenging sonatas in that way.
