What Makes You a “Real Artist”

One of my pet peeves is the phrase "real artist". I see it a lot. A real artist only uses Wacom. A real artist wouldn't fool with anything that isn't Adobe. I rant a little about that in this video.

Confusing the words "real" with "professional" seems to be the biggest issue for most people. If you create art of any kind then you are a real artist. The only thing that makes you a professional is a pay check.

My favorite is "you do digital art, you aren't a real artist." Smh. Almost 40 years of drawing. Most of that was traditional. Also, I'm terrible on the business side

I agree Brad. There are others that do leather much more detailed than me but what I do I have a passion for and it shows. I like most of my customers and they become friends. Even if just while the project is going.

I only have one animation to show off. I find it hard to call myself an animator. I have to learn to keep what I work on. like make a file on my tablet and save everything I make, like a sketchbook but for animation.

i realized that art is like a fire inside. sadly my fire burned out (so i thought) and i havent drawn in 8 years. but a true artist fire never burns out! thanks to all the witty intelligent humble people like brad, that i want to watch not just the art but other stuff as well. these people inspire others to draw.

'real artists' are those that love to make art.. Any art. If you do it without loving it... Well... Hmm didn't think of that.

Hi, there! I consider myself an armature artist, except I have learned so much about apps through your channel alone that I would not even know that they existed if it was not for you. I use these apps all the time. Yet I am also interested in screen writing & filmmaking.
