It was all a power play by Amata to seize control of the vault and become Overseer. That's how I viewed it and that's why I put land mines everywhere outside the vault. Good luck trading with the outside world queen.

They blame me for my father leaving and letting in a few radroaches (Which despite 10 year old us killing with a BB gun, are seemingly enough of a threat to murder a bunch of dwellers and trained security guards) that freaks the Overseer out so much he ordered the security guards to shoot down any innocent vault dwellers and to kill Jonas and me?

Like, i hate to go "Bethesda writing bad" because there's good writers at Bethesda, but its clear whoever was in charge to write this quest didn't know what to do with it. The fact that the overseer just gets to step down without any big punishments is absurd. They act like it was a family squabble when several people were murdered over it.

This is why killing everyone on that vault or sabotage is never the wrong choice

Honestly this is a fascinating story for a deserted vault in any new fallout game they make. Vault has a problem sends someone in the waste to fix it. When the vaulter comes back and are told to leave after fixing the problem, the vaulter massacres the vault leaving the player to pick amongst it's remains.
