I get to drive my old BMW M4 and talk about the differences between it and my new Porsche 911 C4S. We then do some quick drag races.

Not that you care nick. But it looked to me like every time you shifted he gained 5-10 feet in the m4.

Driver's who love Porsches want the cars for the overall experience. Acceleration is only one measure. There is also steering, handling, heritage and overall feel. As someone who owns both a 2017 911 C4S and 2010 BMW M3. I'd give up the M3 if I had to give up one.

Gear change on the 911 is the weakness in a drag race. Should have ordered with PDK.

PLEASE do a FAIR comparison and pitch the 991.2 fitted with a PDK vs the M4 with the DCT. I am almost certain that the two will be neck to neck if not the 911 might even be a tad faster.

Nick, your C4S is one of the coolest cars around and we know you know that lol. But as you drag race friends and your own old M4, your race craft could be a lot better, evening out the differences and possibly win a lot more. 1st - Brake Boosting on race start please. In a turbo car it is essential. You are loosing 1 second waiting for the boost. 2nd - Flat Foot Shifting (Cobb AP Tune) would give no boost lose between shifts. 3rd - Do 3 horn blasts to start the race so you're not holding the radio as you tend to drop back at that point. The jump is so do you and others think?

I got rid of my 2016 911 black edition with 30, 000km and managed to purchase a 2016 m4 with 9, 000km for nearly $30, 000 (Canadian Dollars) less than I sold my 911. The 911 is a better car if you're concerned with racing & you track your car. As a daily driver the M4 is better & what makes me love it even more is the value for what I paid.

Volkswagen group, and all the vehicles they make can be fantastic (Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi) however, they are notorious for making cheap plastic look expensive. In terms of Porsche, they won't give you cheap plastic - instead they'll give you an extremely basic vehicle that drives & looks like crap forcing you to fall into their trap of options. The options on a 911 get extremely expensive, and if you don't get sport chrono, sport exhaust & PDK you're at a pretty big disadvantage, because I drove 911's with and without and there is a massive difference. What upset me most is that I had to pay extra for sport paddle shifters otherwise I would've gotten these very awkward looking almost button-like things on my steering wheel instead. I also didn't decide to do carbon fiber trim or upgraded seats because there was a ridiculous premium and I was already 10k+ in options just adding sport chrono & exhaust. Oh, my Turbo wheels also ran me almost $8, 000. Hence, I was left with a very basic looking car, people would sit in the car and very few people were impressed with the lack of luxury feeling it gives you. Instead, an m4 can be optioned out with gorgeous red interior and carbon fiber and all the likes for a lot less.

The Porsche also doesn't really have that fun factor - the driving is very precise and controlled, this is good because it'll guarantee you results, however the M4 puts a bigger smile on my face because you honestly never know what it will do. Sometimes I'm rolling and decide to hit the gas and you get this insane power. Other times you're stuck at a light because you cannot get your wheels to hit the pavement. It's very driver-dependent and that's what makes it so thrilling.

One car is a race car, the other is a premium sports coupe. There's a difference. The negative end for the m4 is that the 911 handles and performs better in every category. However, a Porsche (in my opinion) is not as aesthetically nice as an m4. The 911 has a very timeless design but it's also very simple - this is great for depreciation, and it's more of a classy vehicle. The M4 is more of an in your face vehicle with a much more aggressive/modern look. A porsche will usually turn heads because it's uncommon, an m4 will turn heads because it's stunning.

Bottom line, both vehicles are amazing but for the money I stand by my opinion that the m4 is much better value for the daily driver.

I have an M4 competition pack. Was thinking of later moving into a 911.... But had my doughts. Not anymore.... I'm sticking with my M4 CP it's just amazing with all things considered. Even M4 CP sounds better than the newer 992 turbo 3.0's

In the specs your wrote that the Porsche is a Line 6 and the BMW a Boxer 6, or do I get the letters wrong in engine type?

Nick, you got to be kidding me, I love long trips in the 911 C4, my friends agree as well (although one drives a 680 HP Firebird, another drives a 5.0 Liter Mustang, another drives a Corvette, and well....you get the jest of the story), but even though we love it for long road trips, you can fit a boat load of bags, cases, laptop carry bags, etc. in the back and front trunk and you still have enough room to be comfortable.

Love the connected and engaging feel of the 911. It's almost alive in your hands and you can't beat that. I must have one!! Manual only please.

No standing start comparison? Or manual vs manual?

M4 is not 420hp, it is way underrated. Actual figure is like 450-460hp at crank.

@Nick Murray you mixed up the engine types @ 2:04 (the Porsche has the Boxer engine). :P (Out of interest, is that also something that dyslexia has an effect on or is that just a slip up, thanks :D )
