Acronis defines its enterprise value through multilevel cyber protection

Acronis International GmbH has a fairly simple mission: Protect all data in any environment. Yet, cyber environments are highly complex, and the amount of data to be protected can be massive, which makes for a challenging task.

Data backup and recovery systems offer a prime example. They are designed to protect valuable information. But what if during the backup process malware-infected files are scooped up and ultimately restored in recovery?

“That seems like an obvious problem, yet nobody but Acronis actually provides an integrated solution to deal with that,” said Alex Miroshnichenko (pictured), vice president of cyber infrastructure at Acronis. “Acronis takes care of that because we can actually monitor backups; we can find out when was the last time you were clean. It’s multilevel cyber protection, which I think is fairly unique in the industry.”

Protection for real problems
For Acronis, being in the business of cyber protection means delivering capabilities to replace legacy solutions that no longer meet the challenge of guarding against myriad threats. At its inaugural Global Cyber Summit this week, Acronis announced a number of new solutions designed to combine the disciplines of cybersecurity and data protection into a unified whole.

“Our cyber platform is different because we essentially expose our APIs to our technology that’s out there and people have been using,” Miroshnichenko said. “The key point of the platform is that it has to solve a real problem, not just be there for the sake of elegance.”

Today’s enterprises may often have hundreds or thousands of data-generating locations that place additional demand on the need to store and backup an ever-increasing mass of information. For those who observe the evolution of storage tech, it’s ultimately all about scale and the right solution to protect the data.

“If you look back to 30 years ago, it was ‘storage is exploding; soon we’ll have two gigabytes,’” Miroshnichenko recalled. “Imagine when people start recording music and this ‘MP3 thing’ is heating up! The demand keeps growing, and you need to have technologists to handle that appropriately.”
