Very good and important video to get this summarised! I think a discussion in the future with more detail about the difference in classical and quantum time complexities and constant factors, especially for the important problems, could be useful on top of this.

where are links to part 1 and part 2 ?

Small clarification: it's not known if factoring is harder than P, so it may still be easy to do even if P is proven to not be equal to NP.

Early computers weren't all that useful at first either. They were used to calculate artillery tables and do basic statistics. But as we know, the potential was there, and we're using it every day today. Quantum computers are too new to really know what they can do. They will get better. Will they eventually eclipse modern classical computers? I think not. They are good for certain things, maybe, but classical computers are very good at what we need them to do.

And i don't see massive super cooled quantum computers replacing the processor in your cell phone. Even if they could, why would you? Could you use a massive crane to drive a nail? Yes you could, but it would make more sense to just use a hammer.

The Quantum Computing winter is way overdue

Unrelated to the topic because it melts my little brain and I don't have anything meaningful to add, but the thumbnail had me wondering why young Phil Helmuth was doing a presentation on quantum computing.

The video itself hasn't changed my mind either.

qcomps may well be powered by terahertz lasers so even if the protocols aren't all sanguine for exponential speedup the speed could be orders of magnitude faster and a universal qcomp will run all code - compare 6ghz to 30 thz - 1000x faster or 3 orders of magnitude, problems that can take advantage of quantum speedup will be much faster than that

Are we heading towards Quantum bubble?

Even though I have this channel running on the Sub+Bell it didn't show up in my feed. Guh. Good informative video though!

Isn't P and NP strictly about classical turing machines? It's my understanding that only BQP is a complexity class that involves quantum computers

I expect the usefulness depends on the degree of entropy / non deterministic randomness.

Feeling like QC will be just like fusion and real AI

Why can't you solve travelling salesman faster on quantum computing? Doesn't it go through possibilities significantly faster and compare them?

If im still alive, I'll check back in on this topic in the year 2100

It's hype. We're going back to chatgpt.

🪄✨ Made with SummarizeYT
0:09 - We can utilize superposition and interference between the states of quantum systems.
0:28 - Tasks can be organized based on whether they are useful in the real world and exponentially faster as the number of qubits increases.
1:36 - Quantum computers are famous for factoring large numbers, which is believed to be faster on a quantum computer than on a classical computer.
3:01 - Quantum computers can be used for simulating quantum systems like molecules and materials, which is not easily achievable with classical computers.
4:54 - Quantum computers are still in the era of noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices and need to be made more robust for precise computations.

So why dont we just use AC current to help speed up computers?
