BIG Turbo 500+hp Galant VR-4, AKA the Mitsubishi Evo's Grandfather

preview_player
Показать описание
Before the Mitsubishi Evo, there was another venerated AWD turbo'd sedan in the DSM lineup: the Galant VR-4. AWD, 4G63 powered, and relatively light compared to any modern sheetmetal. While this car may look unassuming to most, it comes with some proper rally pedigree and a serious 500+ engine build. And SO MANY TURBO NOISES.

Love that the Galant VR-4 is getting recognition once again. I've been following Brett's build of his 2 VR-4's since I acquired my 87 JDM model almost 3 yrs ago. Both of his VR-4's are pretty amazing as well as numerous other examples around the world 👍

I can't believe I'm actually seeing this on video that isn't old rally footage. I've always had love for these things.

There’s plenty of these still running around in New Zealand you need to come here and film our car culture

I love my '91 VR-4!
I bought her in '93, and she is still 99% stock with just over 150K miles on the clock. I have been lucky to enjoy her as the sleeper she was back in her early years, but even now at 28 years old, she is still a hoot to drive as my daily!

Beautiful car man, tastefully modded and most importantly you're keeping it alive and well while also driving it and not squirreling it away like collectors do so often.

Yeah cool as car. In New Zealand we called them the EVO 0. There were heaps of them. but sadly due to the young boyracers. So many were losted to the junk yard. Still a big fan of this car. Aweome to see

These cars were basically the Evo's daddy. My first car was a base version of this gen Galant and I've also had few pmmm AWD Eclipse turbos. I've always wanted a Vr4 so badly. I miss my Starion (turbo/oem widebody) and I will replace it someday and have one of these. It's such a cool bit of jdm history and specifically Mitsubishi's rally legacy which was actually quite a glorious thing for Mitsu. Tom's Turbo garage here on YouTube is worth a sub and he's got one of these unicorns.

Super cool car. My boy had one. Broke my heart when he sold it.
Best memory is when we took it to Englishtown NJ Mitsubishi vs Subaru day. All the Evo guys lost their shit when we pulled up. There was no parking and they moved to Make a spot for that car. LOVE IT!!

This is my dream car back in early 90's. In my country it is Mitsubishi Eterna FWD 2.0 4G63 NA. Have a chance drive it ten years leter and it is really comfortable and fun to drive.

Man, after watching this video, I really miss my 91 VR4...

The 10 years that I owned it, went to many street race and threw many people off.

Now I kind of want to look for another one, but I know it would be impossible to get my hands on one...

There are a few of this still running here in the Philippines as well. And there was one owner who's around his 80s who has a darkish green galant (I don't know the color name). But damn the car is so fresh and clean all stock. He even has the stock mags for it like its brand new. So damn cool to see one of this still alive and running.
