One of my favorite books as a child, if they mess this up...

I hope the fantasy elements are just from the kids' imaginations. The story is powerful enough without needing to add unnecessary magic

Why. The 1993 version is PERFECT. Aren't there so many other stories to tell?

I do love Julie Walters but no one can outdo Maggie Smith’s performance as Mrs. Medlock..

The 1993 version was a masterpeice. The days before CGI and over stylised sets.

I've seen the 1993 version of The Secret Garden probably a hundred times over and I don't know why they would want to make another version. 1993 version was absolutely perfect and still to this day one of my favourite movies.

the 1993 film version was so good!! in this she didn’t ‘fall’ into the garden and the 1993 version just seemed so much more realistic

The 1993 version was my childhood I used to watch it over and over again, this is nothing like that version. Mary is supposed to a spoilt child from India and she didn’t fall into The Secret Garden, she found a door.

Everyone’s so eager to tear this movie apart. I went to watch it on a whim, haven’t even heard of the book before or seen the trailer. It’s a very touching movie, made with so much love that seeps out of every detail for those who know how to see them. Movies by books shouldn’t and can’t be literal adaptations, they are also art in their own right. Kudos to everyone who made this, there is so much love brought to life in it, and for those who attack it, don’t let your hearts harden too much. Share your love for the material with the movie authors, dislike it if you will but know that if someone gave so much of their life and effort into it, they too must adore the material.

The 1993 version was so good, why do they feel the need to make a whole new one?

Sorry, but there’s a thing called overdoing and this is it. Mary didn’t fall into the garden, no one yelled at mr craven ‘your son needs you’ and there were absolutely no house fires. Did they even read the book?

I grew up watching The Secret Garden (1993) and loved it. A few years ago I bought it on DVD, and am excited to show it to my daughter when she gets older. I can't imagine any other version of TSG being more magical than the 1993 version. It helped me to appreciate gardens and flowers and taught me what wick was and meant! As an adult I have been trying to recreate my own, small, secret garden. It's magic and heartwarming version never left my memory. I'll give this a try, because I love costume drama, and this story, but I already know which will version will never, ever be topped. It's one of, it not my favorite, movie.

The 1993 version was perfect! The soundtrack was phenomenal. Why must Hollywood keep remaking good movies? Leave these classics alone.

Oh good, the entire mansion is on fire just like it wasn't in the book.

I'm still going to watch this movie and enjoy it but this is one of those movies that I really don't want a remake for it, I watched The Secret Garden (1993) only 3 years back and it never felt old, actually, it was magical. there are tons of other good movies that need a remake, this one is not one of those movies.
The only movies that need a remake are the ones that had old CGI, someone needs to call Hollywood and tell them that.

I don't really like the fact that they added supernatural elements, the story was magical enough without them...

The spell was broken, my uncle learned to laugh and I learned to cry, the secret garden is always open now, open, awake and alive,
If you look the right way...
You’ll see that the whole world is your secret garden🦋

Nothing can compare to the absolute drama and tear-jerker that was 1993’s _The Secret Garden_ and its beautiful musical score. Dame Maggie Smith starring as Mrs Medlock. Kate Maberly as Mary. It’s an all-star cast. The children are sooo dramatic, the actor who plays Craven is so intense yet completely melts and falls apart by the end. I’m literally sobbing by the end, myself, when the theme song by Linda Ronstadt ("Winter Light") comes on. I don’t know, nothing can top that version for me. Maybe because it was my childhood. But the acting, human and animal, and the scenery in the Yorkshire Moors, is just stunning.

Honestly, the producers really could have taken "that less is more" lesson here. This is wayyyy to much. If anyone knows the book or 1993 film, this film will only disappoint. I bet that they will try to remake A Little Princess too and just destroy it....agh oh well.
