If you dont need any bells and whistles, go wireguard. It's newer, came out in 2015, vs 2001 openvpn. So it simpler codebase and supports only the latest and greatest. Sure OpenVPN is modern too, but it'll have a lot of fat...

I try to make it simple, OpenVPN for user authentication because of strong security, certificates or 2FA, and WireGuard for side to side, because of ease of setup and fast tunnel establishment

Can WireGuard use Windows Certification authority, so the certificates would be issued to computer$ accounts, and tied to ActiveDirectory?
Because AlwaysOnVpn via RRAS on windows server sucks

the problem with wireguard the isp can block the handshake by using DPI so openvpn over udp still the perfect solution.
