Exploring Delft, Netherlands | Netherlands Series

This week we take a quick 15-minute train ride from The Hague to the beautiful city of Delft.

Delft is known for a few things. They are known for their Defltware which is porcelain pottery brought back from China. The wealthy were attracted to the blue and white that they collected these beautiful potteries. It became so popular that people started to imitate it in the Netherlands. Now the Royal Delft is the last remaining factory to produce this beautiful Delftware. The second thing Delft is known for is the famous painter Johannes Vermeer. His most famous painting is The Girl with a Pearl Earring. Vermeer was born and spent his whole life in Delft.

We visit the Royal Delft to learn more about the history of the Delft blue and its Delftware. We see first-hand artists and sculptors making the Delftware and get to see some beautiful artwork.

We head to the city center and grab lunch then immediately make our way to the Vermeer Center where we learn some fascinating facts about Vermeer and his life. It’s a great introduction to Vermeer.

Afterward, we walk across to the Markt square where we can find the New Church and City Hall. An awesome place to walk around.

Used to stay for a month in Mina, Delft. The place was wonderful, chilly vibes everywhere. And the fish & chips on Delft Square every Thursday, just beyond words 🤩

Love to live there, it is just so peaceful, look how few cars there are! Imagine just being able to walk or bike or hop a train anywhere, imagine actual people out in the open rather than wrapped in brutal metal cocoons, people you could potentially meet and engauge with without an app! Imagine being able to sit in the city centre without choking on fumes and without it sounding like a light aircraft is taking off in the middle of the street! Imagine not fearing for your life when you try to ride a bike or cross the street! Must be wonderful! Just people watching and enjoying the ambiance of the street!

The Delft main square is so pretty! I rented a car to drive to Delft, but parallel parking in a standard vehicle, along the canal, nearly killed me 😂 scariest driving experience of my life

i live in delft for over 6 years now, i still love it. and this video is very lovely made, thank you for this. i hope that next time you are able to stay longer in this beautyful town of delft. you mentioned about the cityhall on the market plain, if i remember right trough weekday you are able to go inside the frontpart of it, it is open to the public, as well as the (new) church across it, and the "old" church as well, which is in walking distance.

Netherlands is very high on our travel list. Tovah trained the the Cold Lake Canadian Military Nijmegen Team in 2018 and as not able to attend the march. We would love to go and do the march and travel all over. We love the allure of all the cute, small quaint towns.
