RIP Boris Spassky. He lost against fischer but he applauded his brilliant game, truly a legend.

RIP Boris. I played him in a Simul back in 1987, I lost. Very nice person.

When Spassky joined in the audience applause of Fischer's game 6 win, Fischer was deeply impressed and in a later interview sincerely called him a true sportsman. There is hardly a better tribute. Spassky was a genuine class act.

I had the privilege of witnessing the historic chess world championship match between Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer in 1972. This wasn’t merely a contest of chess mastery; it was a profound psychological battle waged at the height of the Cold War. The intensity was palpable, with the entire world captivated, watching each move unfold as a symbolic clash between East and West.

RIP GM Spassky. Hope he knows that he was one of the faces that made the game. His games, win or lose, will be studied, forever. A legacy is the second best thing to leave the world.

That game against Larsen is pure honey. One of the most gorgeous attacking games ever, and it's hardly remembered now.

I love it when you leave out “get out of here” on Memorial videos. I saw you did it once for another chess master who passed away during a chess game I think..
Anyway. That’s very wholesome of you.

First and foremost, RIP to a legend and a true gentleman of the sport.
Really sad to hear that Spassky passed, but I'm also really happy for somewhat of a return to these historic games. I've always enjoyed your coverage of these older games and really fell in love with chess by watching the Chess History playlist on the channel. I hope we get more of these classic chess game breakdowns.

Spassky invented his own system, e3, against the Queen's Indian defense! RIP, a true pioneer of the game. I admire his universal style, his openings, and his mentality. What a gentleman.
