As a Ride devotee from their first EP, I have loved their journey thru the 90s. The reverb soaked wall of shoe gazing psychedelic sound with the best drummer on earth to the 60s embracing Carnival of Light to Tarantula. A band stripped down and using their spines and feel more melody. I listen to this album only second to “Nowhere”. That’s how I judge an album...by how often I play it. I love “Tarantula” and will not apologize for it...heh.

As much as a Ride fan as I am, this is my favorite song by them. It’s a freakin leviathan!

Just been reading on this last LP by Ride. Heard it was awful, but it's not too bad at all.
Speaking of crimes, McGee committed one of his own when he chose to posthumously release the final Ride album after the band split. Ride's Tarantula(1995) was recorded as the band were falling apart, and tensions between Mark Gardener and Andy Bell were reaching a head. In the end, Bell won the argument, writing the majority of the album, which sounded nothing like the great young shoegazers they were just five years before. Instead, the album featured derivative retro rock that may have suited the time but not their fans, critics or even the band members themselves. With his subsequent band,  Hurricane #1, Bell stayed on with Creation, aping the label's biggest act (and his future bandmates), Oasis. There is very little substance to be found in either of the band's two Creation albums,  Hurricane #1 and Only the Strongest Will Survive.

This is really cool when played live, even if it's pretty basic. This is classic rock like Jet, but 7 years earlier... imagine this sung by Nic Cester. I stand with NME: the main problem of Tarantula is that you expect a stronger voice for hard rock numbers like this one.
