Space News: NASA and Roscosmos Sign Agreement to Study Deep Space Gateway

As NASA continues formulating the deep space gateway concept, the agency signed a joint statement with the Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos, on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia. Mike brings us this story.

Bwahahah... Russia isn't 'giving' the airlock for the gateway to be nice, their doing it to stay relevent, to keep a hand on the wheel. The Russian 'contributions' to the ISS were bought and paid for by the rest of the International partners. These contributions were over budget and far exceeded their promised delivery dates. For the honor of overpaying and under recieving for these 'contributions, ' the politicians put ISS on an orbital plane that only makes sense if you are launching from Russia, and made American and European launches much more expensive.

Great Video ! A good location for the "Deep Space Gateway" is in a Polar LLO ! The DSG can then support a commercial Lunar Polar Base... And the passengers and crew can seek shelter from radiation in a Bigelow Aerospace Module covered with Lunar Regolith at the Clementine Base at the Lunar South Pole ! The commercial Clementine Base can help map and recover Lunar Water Ice. The Lunar Water can be broken down to LUNar OXygen (LUNOX) that has many uses. And Hydrogen to fuel the Reusable Lunar Based Shuttle (Lunar Base to Polar LLO). And heated Hydrogen can be used to recover Solar Wind Gasses from the Lunar Regolith ! Back to the Moon to Stay and onto Mars and Beyond-Ad Astra... tjl

I am glad that consideration to where space co-operation will go to next is happening. But... I'm also confident of new capabilities will overtake these plans much faster than the established invested technical partners can deal with.
Spacex's revolutionary BFR will make this incremental, conservative, expensive and multi-national financed & driven project obsolete within a decade. Private sector technical achievements & developments in profitable launch services will make this 'traditional' space habitat a zombie project. Receiving financial life support when obviously superseded.
Just like when slow propeller driven airliners continued to receive state support long after jet liners were clearly going to be the future of fast reliable safe international travel for many more people at far cheaper seat price.
