Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is incredible and being slept on hard by the masses. Glad it is doing really well critically. I really hope it wins in Adventure... The puzzles and combat puzzles are so fun compared to the other games.

Shadow of the Erdtree is phenomenal; it’s easily one of the best pieces of video game content ever released, but I really do wish they’d made a category for DLCs. It’d suck to have a Last of Us Part 2 moment where it takes home almost every award.

@ 5:14 Krysta's Gilmore Girls knowledge came in handy with the pronunciation of Lorelai

'Elden Ring' is the only game I've seen so many people fail playing at a large scale (using a regular controller) AND succeed in playing in crazy ways (like using a harp as a controller). I can understand why a lot of people would want 'Shadows of the Erdtree' removed from the 'Game of the Year' category, but I don't think it would be because it was technically DLC, but instead reliving the struggle of the original game (the old save data is needed to access the new content, and most people likely deleted their save data due to limited memory on their gaming consoles, and many gamers likely have too many games in their backlog to redo 'Elden Ring' PLUS the 'Erdtree' DLC). I would like 'Shadows of the Erdtree' to win GOTY so the gaming industry can progress properly into the game streaming era, but it looks like Elden Ring left a bad taste in a lot of new gamers mouths (who don't like tough games), so I'd have to give GOTY to 'Black Myth Wukong', which would result in 'Astrobot' winning Family GOTY.

Personally, I feel like 'Plucky Squire' took some inspiration from the 'Scribblenauts' series, in terms of gameplay uniqueness, and took it to the next level with dynamic animated 3D graphics. When I hear 'Family Game' I think 'Nuclear Family' (Father, Mother, Son, Daughter) and would assume the children weren't adults yet, and I'm all for the youth having fun educational games, and 'Astrobot' looks like it only educates on PlayStation character history, so 'Plucky Squire' gets my vote for this category. Note: it would contradict itself if 'Astrobot' won GOTY and not Family GOTY, every category winner slot serves as an advertisement slot, so one game can't take two categories (like back in the day).

Shadow of the Erdtree is my best gaming moment of 2024, easily.

I feel like we've told Kit how to pronounce Balatro in every video it's mentioned 😂😂

Animal It deserves GOTY!!!
Or at the very least best indie.
It is so accessible yet complex. Fun yet mysterious. Beating that game and finding (almost) all the eggs without a guide made me feel more accomplished than anything the games of the past decade have made me feel. Congratulations to Billy Basso.

I mostly voted for Super Mario Party Jamboree and Astrobot. 😅

Astro Bot should win. It was a breath of fresh air compared to some of the others. But Rebirth or Metaphor are close seconds.

I have to agree with Krysta. Metaphor is also my GOTY pick. It’s just such a grandiose game compared to the other nominees. Astro Bot is too safe of a game. It’s your typical platformer that doesn’t really do anything different compared to other safe platformer games. Its a glorified version of its shorter tech demo counterpart.

For the 2021 Game Awards, Nintendo had four games nominated in the Family Game category: Mario Party Superstars, New Pokemon Snap, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury and WarioWare: Get It Together!. Nintendo had 80% chance to win and It Takes Two won.

I contest your point that Balatro is the only potential Game Of The Year Indie, therefore it should (or would) win Best Indie Game.
Because the Game of the Year category only considers the games that were played by a very large number of players. You could make an indie game that is technically BETTER, but never qualify for Game of the Year because you were a sleeper hit. Then you might beat Balatro in terms of the indie award, while failing to steal it's GOTY nomination because of your lack of influence on the overall market.

Balatro is wildly popular, but it is just an addictive card game.

I'm like years behind. I'm slowly working my way up to current year. I have no vote. Metaphor looks like it will be my favorite game of 2025. Lol

They shouldn't announce the GOTY finalists until the orchestra plays the song from that game. That will keep the other categories more suspenseful.

I’m really hoping Rebirth wins out in the end. It’s such a great game and has so much depth and quality in its content.

I think it would be so hilarious if Balatro wins and then they just blast the chill BGM in the auditorium while the dev goes up to get the award.

I loved Astro Bot but Prince of Persia the Lost Crown absolutely clears it and the other games in Action/Adventure.

I agree with every one of Krysta’s picks except for GOTY. I’m with Kit on that - I think it’s between Astro Bot and Balatro

My personal game of the year is Astro Bot so I hope it at least wins for best family game. As for GOTY, it’s hard to say but I’m going to agree with Kit and say metaphor.
