Automatically Find Chart Patterns & Candlestick Patterns in ThinkOrSwim

Think-Or-Swim has a great little feature that helps you automatically find and trade technical chart patterns and candlestick patterns.

You've no doubt read about the classic technical chart patterns such as double tops and bottoms, head and shoulders, ascending triangles, etc.

You've likely also heard of the Japanese candlestick patterns such as Marubozu, Doji, Evening Star, Morning Star, etc.

But did you know ThinkOrSwim knows how to find and notify you of all these types of chart patterns automatically? TOS features a great pattern recognition engine that finds both classic technical chart patterns and Japanese candlestick patterns.

In this video I show you how to turn on pattern recognition in TOS and then customize which classic chart and candlestick patterns you want Think Or Swim to find for you.

Now I know how to adjust the sensitivity of the ascending triangle. And I didn't know until now about the Display, which shows predictive price movement. A lot of good information. I want to know how to enter my own 3 bar candle patterns--any ideas?

Cool vid. Q? I noticed that you had dbl-bottom pattern selected, but ToS didn't pickup the two "W"s even when you changed the sensitivity. Is there a way to change the settings so that it would identify it b4 it happens using the Emerging option? Keep it up.

Hi, the patterns icon is not showing up next to studies on my TOS, as it's supposed to be a standard feature I don't find instructions on how to make it appear on the bar like it's supposed to be working. Can you tell me how to make it visible?

Appreciate ur video. TOS pattern recon is horrible, nothing like Trade view and others. I understand how to use it and all the settings and scans. Watched many videos and there are so many, lets say "Quirks". As soon as you start changing sensitivity features, most patterns disappear, just like ur video w just one setting changed ( forget if you change more than one) and you had to readjust. When you scan for certain patterns or a patterns, and want to see intra day, a list comes up in the scan, and even though you have the scan on 1 day 15 minutes, or a few days, and even manipulate the number of bars....nothing shows up for the day. Only shows previous day. Even w the setting not to see if the chart pattern ended, only continued. I see many complaints about this, I thought it was me. Can you explain this or show an intra day/ existing chart pattern, using a Scan or other. Also the ranges usually never show up/ pot luck. I would love to see it work and be wrong.
Also problems w the candle recongnition patterns. Ty

when i turned on moring star candle pattern i did not get any results for SPY in 4 years, even though i myself was able to identify some. what is the problem

How do you scan for patterns historically? ie I'd like to scan for every gap up from the past year

I've used this on TOS Charts and Prophet Charts. On Prophet Charts there is a "Find" button that scans to help make a watchlist. I don't see the "Find" button in TOS charts. Do you know how to scan for patterns in TOS Charts?

Is there any reason why the chart patterns works on SPY but not on the SPX or /ES

I tried FXU, RFDI, RFEM, SPTM, EMB, IEI, even /BTC, on time scales of 10D, 20D, 180D, 1Y, and 3Y. None generated any patterns, no matter how (in)accurate. SPY did show something. Do you know what's up? Maybe it's just the past year has been so smooth that there's not much of a signal to analyze?
