What is the Scientific Method?

Hey guys! Welcome to this Mometrix video on the scientific method. Why do we need the scientific method? There should be a method behind why we do anything! There needs to be consistency, there needs to be a logical flow, there ought to be consensus, and the experiment must be able to be replicated. If everyone were to just do their own thing, then there would inevitably be fabricated scientific research posing as facts, lacking any consistency.

I thought it was (1) make an observation, (2) propose a hypothesis based on the observation and what you propose as an explanation for what you observed, (3) test the hypothesis by some controlled experiment that logically will show your hypothesis is true or false, and (4) record and report the findings truthfully — using statistical methods to show the likelihood of the truth of what you report.
