Thanks for making this video. I've always admired the way you explore and incorporate electronics in different videos. You've given me more ideas to explore.

Very nice! Making your electronics area cosy and inviting like yours is key I think. I like having a plywood "wall" at the back of my small desk, so that I can hang tools and supplies, but your desk is of course much nicer. A nice thing to have is some sort of side table (doubling as storage for or the other supplies) or hurtsch (as we say is swedish) that you can put your supplies on so they don't take up the desk space while you're working.

Linn,
This is a great video. You have inspired me to clear off the junk from my e-bench and get it organized. First I must find a place to put the junk.... I like the idea of having both fixed 5v/12v supplies and a variable power supply. I agree that a good soldering station is essential. The little vise had me fooled for a minute.

Great video. I am new to electronics myself. I recently made a mini FM transmitter, working on a laser transmitter and a few other projects. I find this stuff so interesting that I recently went back to school for electro mechanical tech. I recently had work bench built. I am slowly working my way up to it be ing my 'electronics work bench'. I have about 98% of the items you mentioned in your video, but looking at your video has given me more ideas on what to add to my bench to make it a more efficient work place. I will look for more of your videos!

Thanks for the primer, Linn. I've always been interested in electronics but have had a hard time finding good tutorials. And thanks for the referrals. I love when you're at your tinker table doing any kind of electronics. Keep em coming. ;-) Troy

That's a nice setup you have there. I always enjoy finding old electronic hardware on the curb and remove all the usable parts, including wire. Somewhere I have a pdf file that I had in the Army of the Ohms law chart and other neat to have items, such as the resistor color code if you'd like to have them and make available to your subscribers, for download from your website.

Cable ties and electrical tape seems to be something I have a lot of, as well as wire snips, I have about 10 sets, just because I use the, for craft with my girls, my model making, electronics, work in my car, so many different things. I also find brush on electrical tape handy, as well as various coloured hot glue sticks. I have plastic boxes with my switches and LED's and components but it's not an ideal setup.

you need to remember the power limit of some resistors, a lot that you buy of the shelf are 0.25W. Power=volts*amps, amps=volts/resistance therefore power = (volts*volts)/resistance, so that1.8k resistor will have (16.8*16.8)/1800=0.157w of power which is fine but if you start to increase the current or voltage without changing the resistor you will blow it. so if you have a 20mA LED you will blow the resistor

That looks like a Wilson Baby Bullet Vise. There's a channel where a few guys got together and machined one out of tool steel. Great little vise

Well Darbin, two things I do know now: one is that I need something like your third hand, two is that I have to subscribe.

Excellent video, loved your desk and the way you organize those components (I use cardboxes like the ones shoes come divided in compartments -not fancy at all, I know, but I value the mobility it allows).

Outstanding organizations and great tips. I love your helping hands and light builds. Thanks for sharing the youtube links that gave me ideas on speaker builds. Keep up the great work and thumbs up on all that you are doing! If I could do 10% of what you show, I would be a happy man! How did you learn so much?

Nice video. I just wanted to add something about soldering irons, if you all dont mind :) As an engineer i had many situations with soldering, basicly there are just two things too look for out there. Tip longevity and tip grounding. Tip longevity depends on type, but everything that Uses hakko 900M is great, and there are chinese copies which are not so bad. And grounding MAKES SURE that your tip is grounded. You can check this, connect your powersupply and place multimeter between minus and tip of your iron, also plus and tip of your iron you should have NOTHING, zero volts AC or DC. If you have voltage this could damage your electronics. And practice just keep practicing, solder desolder destroy PCB :D just try try try thats how you get perfect. Hope this was not too long :) Great job for channel great job :)

Neat little work area... looks like you love shiny things. ;) I especially love the board with the third hands.... I need to build me one... I only got those out of the box import once that never point to the right angle. Oo Looking forward to your next project... take care!
