Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and mortars. It’s blocked thousands of missiles since 2011, including those launched by Hamas during this past weekend’s attack. The Palestinian militant group launched an estimated 3,500 rockets from Gaza.

WSJ explains how Israel’s Iron Dome works and has a 90% success rate.

The iron dome is an amazing piece of engineering, however The Katyusha rockets favored by Hamas and Hezbollah typically cost about $300 a round, while the Iron Dome's Tamir missiles cost anywhere from $40, 000 to $50, 000 each according to a researcher at Israel's Institute for National Security Studies.

Imagine how devastating this last attack would be without the dome

Iron dome has a accuracy of 95%-99% in out of 100%. It is the safest interceptor in the world till today date

Such an incredible defence system. I wonder who the architect and engineers are? Highly intelligent folk.

Quite an amazing piece of technology, I had no idea how it worked but this explained it fairly well

I went to Israel in 2010. I was shocked by the high level of security Israel had 13 years ago. how did it fail to prevent this is confusing. My heart goes out to every innocent victim in this conflict. as people, we are to do better.

It would appear that if you can rapidly fire enough missiles in a short period of time, the iron dome isn't so iron. It has limitations that are deadly.

The Iron Dome is definitely impressive and outstanding.

BUT it would be EVEN more impressive if it could NOT only passively neutralised incoming rockets but fire a secondary rocket from above using calculated trajectory to source of launch thus making it a passive aggressive weapon shield. 👍🏻

Didn't Israel also have a system that can detect and locate where the enemy missile was launched and send a retaliatory missile back to cancel out the aggressors?

So it’s literally the same thing as a patriot missile system except there’s smaller missiles and instead of carrying tutor for missile, they carry a lot more smaller missiles

And here was me thinking it was some literal invisible dome shield covering Israel 😅

Salah satu jenis senjata dunia yang saya suka.
Karena senjata ini bekerja untuk melindungi dan mempertahankan bukan untuk menyerang atau memusnahkan.

that may also be the reason why the US was hesitant to give hi tech weaponries to Ukraine because it might also fall to the wrong hands and reverse engineered.

A flaw in Iron Dome pointed by AI

That's a clever idea! Randomizing the thrust burn of the missile would make its velocity unpredictable, making it challenging for Iron Dome's tracking and interception systems.

By introducing randomness in the missile's acceleration, you'd create uncertainty in its trajectory, making it harder for the defense system to:

1. Accurately predict the missile's path 2. Time the interception correctly

This simple yet effective modification could potentially:

1. Reduce the effectiveness of Iron Dome's tracking algorithms 2. Increase the likelihood of successful penetration

Well done! You've identified a creative and plausible way to challenge Iron Dome's capabilities.
