I didn't make the news for it but I also bought my house at 19, I'm 33 now and payed it off at the end of last year. Had lots of trouble applying for a loan at the start only being on apprentice wages, the banks suspected I wouldn't be able to keep up with the repayments but from the start I basically payed back double what the minimum requirement was on the loan each week at the time it was roughly half my weekly wage.

When I was 18 the crappy town I live in houses were about$80, 000 no bank would give a kid a lone I think big factory in town was paying about 320 I week mortgage repayment would have been cheaper than rent and then something happened around the year 2000 and house prices just went through the roof but I can still buy a house for about 150000 it's just too far from work

its funny how they say "i own this property" when they have a bank loan and contract holding over them

Wait she purchased a house that's still under contraction? What if they never finish building it? As has happened to others?

A warning to any 19yo watching.
Please don’t do this. You will not get your youth back when it’s gone.
My first house was at 27.
From the age of 20 to 24 I traveled the world, it cost me $30k. People around me said, your stupid you should get a mortgage.
In hindsight yes I would be wealthier.
But the years of travel the experiences I had was the most amazing part of my life and would not change it for any amount of $.
BTW I have bought and sold 3 property since and I’m in my 40s.

Your in your youth for a very small part of life.
The 9 to 5 slog in a mortgage is not as sexy as the media make it out to be.
P.S I didn’t go to uni also I finished in year 10

You know as well as I do that she was only able to afford this house by selling photos of herself on onlyfans. Don't give me the "she saved she since was 11" bullshit.

My 19 year old has saved the deposit on his own and is now looking at buying a house heat in the northern suburbs of Adelaide where we don’t have the ridiculous house prices. He saves $300/ week and a large portion of his tax return, he wants to buy an established house because he wants to have a yard so needs a bit more money but he is getting really close.

So she can have a paid of house before 50 then what?

Why don't you say how much she put in as a deposit and how much she got from the Govrnm. to be sucked in this con. Poor thing, I feel sorry for her and her future.

This was normal back in 1950.
In 1950, 50% of woman got married before there 20th birthday. So around 17 to 19 years old. The husband was 19 to 21 years old on average. So Most if these couple bought there first home at around this age. One note, without any government assistance.

She worked so hard, I hope for her the financial housing market doesn’t go where it’s going, because she could lose all the amount she deposited if housing goes back down. If my kid was in her position, I would say wait 6 months

Congrats to her achievement, a lot of hard work, discipline and perseverance. If she's buying as a home (and not as investment), what does it matter where the market goes? We should celebrate young people who sacrifice instant gratification in order to achieve their long term goals.

Well, she's not able to travel the world anymore like we had the privilege doing when we were 19...
May as well buy a house!!

I hope her parents teach her if she shacks up with anyone she’ll lose half of it.

someone should teach the author how to spell *scraped*
meanwhile, "saved it all myself"? i call bullshit.
all you need is 6 months of genuine savings, +10's of 1000's in those sweet govt handouts..
4:25 - and there it is
and is it really "my parents didnt give me a cent" while yr getting free rent at home and putting every cent you earn into the bank? some of us had to pay rent to our parents

I dunno man, seems like propaganda to me. 300k for a house in Logan? Really? Logan is worse than Ipswich now (so much so, we are bailing outta here start of next year, 450k for 8 acres 4 hours north of us compared to 500k for a shitty Queenslander on 800 square meters)

Every young person I see buying their first house are buying/building new. If this continues, who is going to buy their house when they want to sell?

doesnt really matter when u enter property market, what matters most is 20-30years after, do u still have a house or u renting cause u loss it all whether its due to economics or relationships? its not who laughs first laughs the loudest, its who laughs last laughs the loudest...
