China's liquid oxygen-methane rocket engine completes key test

China's 80-ton thrust liquid oxygen-methane engine for a proposed new rocket launcher completed a variable 200-second test on Saturday. The duration is longer than the whole flying period of a rocket. The engine, named TQ-12, was independently developed by the commercial rocket company LandSpace. It has the third highest thrust level among liquid oxygen-methane engines globally.

If CNSA wants to create the One-Hour Global Transportation System (一小时全球快速到达航天运输系统), I think they should partner up with Landspace here and scale this up to make a BE-4 - thrust - level methalox engine instead of using RP-1.

Tsinghua University is going from strength to strength. As is Chinese education. While more and more Chinese universities are entering top 500, Tsinhua is already in top 20. China is really uniquely positioned here, by creating competition between its private firms and the SOEs it can vastly accelerate the speed of its space projects and programs.
