It's amazing how mannequins and dolls frighten people. I buy and sell larger-than-life porcelain Elizabethan dolls and whenever I have company over for dinner, the dolls that I store in my den make them uneasy.

I became a ballet dancer because of the ballerina and the tune to my mother's jewelry box. Which I would wind and rewind over and over again. I was so stage-struck, I paid my older brother my allowance, then told our father to make him partner me and drop a handkerchief. So that I could bow down and chivalrously pick it up and return it to the fair damsel. I was some peculiar child. My older brother was some peculiar damsel.
