At one point in time there were over 17,000 varieties of apples in North America, today just 15 varieties count for 90% of the apples we grow in the US. So the hidden rose apple may not be available in every super market but it's wonderful to know the diversity of fruit is coming back!

Yes, but bigger. In the garden of my grandfather he'd an apple tree. And this tree was growing big apples with a pink color like that. The apples where nicely sweet and sour tasting and so big you would be full for the rest of the day after eating just one. It's a loving memory I cherish. My grandfather would bake pink apple pies and pink apple souce.. And stuff like that. 💖

The pink interior is similar to a very old variety called 'sops of wine' ---dates back to medieval England. It's got streaks of that color and snowy white flesh too. I suspect this is a sport with "sops of wine " as an ancestor.

We have this apple as well except it has red skin. It makes pink apple sauce. Beautiful!

Sad there is very limited biodiversity of fruits and vegetables sold in the grocery stores here in the US. I read the banana, orange, and avocado industries can be easily wiped out with one bad disease because they are only growing one variety of these fruits.

We had an Airlie pink apple tree in our schools apple orchard in Eddyville, Oregon. There was always a fight for the grafted trees we’d make with its trim when we’d have our plant sale every spring. It’s apples made the best and prettiest cider. So good, only us kids in the field biology class would get some because we tended to the orchard.

If you want to eat some really amazing apples, you need to go to Rougemont Quebec. They have cideries like Napa California has wineries.

Cool! I'm interested in apple varieties; its so insane that out of a possible 1700+, there are so few apples commonly available!

The kind of rose apple that i know is different from this. It's the same family of guava. It has one big seed on the inside and white meat. The taste is so sweet and smells like rose, really fragrant! We call it jambu mawar in indonesia. Pls try them when you come to southeast asia!

there are apples called Lucy Rose that are sold now that have pink/red flesh

There is a pink Apple you can see at Angry Orchard in upstate New York. They brought the apple to the upstate region so they could make their rosé cider.

Sprouts is great unknown and unusual varieties of fruits.. I have gotten to try at least two different varieties of the red inside apples many varieties of lots of other apples I had not heard of before. They also do this with citrus fruits
