Hi, italian here (from Naples specifically)
This is actually very traditional in Naples, is called "cuzztiello" and you can put all different kind food in it, from meetballs to "parmigiana di melanzane" (it's like a lasagna where the eggplants work as the pasta, and mozzarella). Just one thing, this kind of bread is not raccomended cause is too soft and the souce will destroy it in no time, we use a different kind os bread, for example "pane cafone" (I don't really know how to translate it in English 😅) but is harder and will perfectly contain everything that you put in it
