Why I don't use Twitter, Instagram, Fediverse...

YouTube also profiles their users and show them stuff they think will interest them, this really goes with all big free websites and maybe even new websites that want to compete (that for exemple tiktok).

Thank you for putting my main issue with Twitter (and Twitter alternatives) that I couldn't properly explain into a concise video. I would say this could also apply to Tumblr, and a little less so to Instagram because it's more post-centric than discourse-centric. Snapchat is private communication between friends you add like Discord, so other than their awful Explore page, I think that platform doesn't apply to this explanation. As much as I want to give credit to places like YouTube or Discord for giving end users more control than Twitter or TikTok, it's all still big tech that we gotta keep our distance from at the end of the day...

Twitter was fun for the first day or two until the algo started getting really good at recommending me inflammatory stuff. It genuinely made my day worse; I used to spend hours arguing with Elon Musk fan boys.
In the end I just wanted to see cool art and keep up to date with news. Fritter does the job well enough for that, so ended up deleting my account

I've always been sceptical of federated social media like Pleroma. Sure, Pleroma and Mastodon may be better in terms of the technology since they're decentralised and not tied to a big tech company, but ultimately, they're still social media sites and so they have the means to carry the same social implications of using "normie" social media like Instagram. Regardless of the platform, social media is addictive by nature, people dump too much emotional energy into it, and even if you're not deeply political, it's still a waste of time imo.

I see them as if they're engineered to misdirect and to depress people, in the longterm. These people forget what's really important. Then they become mentally ill. And these zombies are all around me. In order to not get affected by them I just watch movies and listen to good music

Pleroma is not the same - Pleroma should be installed on your computer so you are the only person controlling access to yourself (or your family) so nobody else can deny you access. Then, you can choose only one-on-one conversations, and also post videos, one on one. So if you and I were on pleroma (the Fediverse), we could have this interesting conversation with only personal colleagues watching, or just private. The posts can be long, if required. It is a much different concept to the commercial players who are simply immoral in my opinion. In fact, advertising should be illegal, it serves no purpose other than to propagandize.

As it is, here on youtube, there is no way for me to contact you, that is also immoral. I would rather not use a website that required me to log in with a user code and password.
