The Italian Farm That's 8 Meters Below The Sea

This is Nemo's Garden, it's an underwater farm created by the Ocean Reef Group. The project was started as an experiment as the owner's crops were suffering in cold weather. Nemo's Garden utilizes the near constant temperature of the sea to make growing plants easier.

The garden was first set up in 2013 just off the coast of Noli, Italy. While the original experiments were washed away in a storm, a more permanent structure was built shortly after.

Nemo's Garden is connected to a control tower on the shore that monitors each biosphere and provides power. Ocean Reef Group also produce smaller biospheres that can be placed inside aquarium.

Fascinating indeed. Yet I do keep wondering about two things:
-Where does a constant supply of CO2 for the plants originate from?
-How much does the reduction in light intensitivity due to the water layers impede the rate of photosynthesis and thereby growth?

Holy smoke, this is a perfect start. If we keep experimenting with that. We could be able to start making some to support not just plants, but potentially animal and people to live in.

Wow an ultra low yield farm! That's right what we needed here in Schilda.

This Farm looks like something out of a science fiction movie!

Tbh it's a great idea. There's natural gas exchange from the base of the bubble, and condensation makes watering redundant. The only thing that I'm not sure how they'd get around is sunlight. How do the plants get enough light so far deep? Sunlight is a limiting favtor even for marine plants, so I'm curious about how they overcome this issue.

I think it's an interesting science experiment and a lot lessons can be learned from it. But, these are the issues I see that would make it impractical

1. Plants don't grow optimally at the same temperature of the sea 2. How is the air kept balanced or fresh? 3. It takes too much effort to put large volumes of air under water 4. Light transition through water has to be significant, especially red. 5. Maintenance is more difficult under water.

One question: how do the plants get oxygen ¿ since the same air is circulating again and again.
