I had to read Diderot quite often back when I was in school as I'm French but I knew nothing about this story x)
And to answer no, I really don't experience the Diderot effect, every time I have money, I only spends it on parties because that's what makes me happy, every time I buy clothes, good food etc, it actually makes me kinda sad, I just feel guilty for having spent money on something that doesn't makes me happy.

We start to level down now at 47, really all stuff has lost its appeal. We rather travel 2-3 winter months in warmer places and helping our grown up kids. Greetings from Åland/Finland!
