Ram 6.7L Grid Heater Bolt Failure Jiggle Test

Here's how you test to see if the nut and bolt in your factory RAM 6.7L Cummins grid heater is loose. If the post jiggles, it indicates that the nut and bolt on the bottom are loose and should be inspected by a mechanic immediately. Over time, the bolt can deform under normal use, elongating and deforming like a stalactite from the roof of a cave. Failure to inspect the bolt could result in it falling off into the intake manifold and rolling downhill, ultimately falling into cylinder #6.

An early sign of grid heater failure is a P2609 trouble code. Prevention begins with the jiggle test. One solution to this potential failure point is to replace the factory intake elbow and grid heater assembly with a Banks Monster-Ram. The system ships with a billet aluminum high-flow heater plate and vertical coil-style heater that threads into the top of the top of the Monster-Ram.

So there’s really two options here. Option one, consider the bolt a maintenance item that needs to be inspect at all times to make sure it doesn’t blow the engine up, or option two…replace it with the improved Banks unit that doesn’t feature the design flaw. 👍👍👍

Funny of Cummins can make incredible engines that is defeated by a $2 part on the 6.7 it is this part and on the 12v the KDP

A thick wire like that should be anchored near the connection point. That thick cable, along with length, makes a good lever like a rod.

I just got the monster ram, I just need to put it on

From the start of Dodge. Cummins Diesel 6.7, I have heard problems with the engine. I have owned an 2003 Dodge Cummins diesel not one problem mileage 87, 500. Love my Dodge truck.

Because of this problem, I checked my 98.0(12v p-pump) and found the same failure mode. The flat bar/heating element was completely burned through instead of the bolt head on 1 of the 2 elements. 97-98.25used a 1 pice with an integrated heater/toster..
My question is can I bolt your monster ram on a p-pump with the late model intake plate?. Genos has the replacement for 998USD.
I have converted the 2nd gen to 1st/3rd gen 2 pice w/ billet intake plate . No toster makes the house next door disappear, discussing.

Just install a banks monster ram. Best upgrade besides fuel. It keeps factory warranty as long as it’s installed by pro. I get better MPH and noticeable throttle response.

Does this also follow the Cummins 6.7 that are in medium duty trucks (Freightliner M2)? Assume so but sometimes they change things up for those engines.

Will the monster ram intake fit a 6.7 if it's in a 4500 chassis

Do you need the full manifold plenum to delete the grid heater or is the smaller plate that comes with the intake the delete

I disconnected mine at the solenoid about two weeks after I bought my 2015 drw. I'm in middle GA don't really need it and on the few occasions that it does get cold enough I just park in my pile barn and plug it in.

Is there a performance gain with the new intake on a stock engine?

Is the grid heater the same as block heater? If so why the different terminology?

they know so much about this and have refused to fix it. Maybe they need sued.

Why wouldn’t you just suggest the delete before it happens?

Can I just "Disconnect" and tape-up the wire from the Grid Heater ??? My 2008 RAM 6.7 has 183, 000 miles on it... Today, , , July 16, 2023 @ 11 am its GH Bolt is as tight as it get's from the factory... I live in always 90+ degree heat in Little Rock, ARkansas... So needing a Grid Heater is irrelevant...

Is it more common for rams that are subject to colder temps more or does that have any affect? Thanks

Know one could ever convince me this failure was not engineered in these motors.

The Banks heater can burn up if the solenoid sticks and fall in the same place, Ive seen it happen.
