I mean to be fair, at this point in the story Chichi is fully aware of how capable Goku is. It's part of Gohan's character development for everyone to think he's too weak to do any fighting at this point in DBZ, plus at this stage of the series Chichi has seen Goku survive far worse than this fight. So all that combined, and it makes perfect sense for Chichi to prioritize Gohan's safety and outright ignore Goku's. Plus you gotta remember Gohan is still just a child at this point. And later on during the Buu storyline, Chichi *slaps Buu upside the head* and demands he bring Gohan back to life. She cares very deeply about her children.
