Thank you for helpful videos! Subscribed. When I had a problem with my 32 year old heat pump not turning on, I was advised that it could be the defrost board. I was surprised to find one on ebay for $30 and it solved the problem. So I bought another. Now, years later, they are only $13 so I bought two more, just in case, as well as a few other backup parts. On to your next video.

You are right, the basic operation and mechanics are the same. Same here I was in the trade 15 years ago and I just installed 2 heat pumps systems in my house.

Since it's been getting warmer in the dc area. I've had two units that were blowing heat when in cool mode. Both times it was the thermostat. Them smart thermostats be fckn up.

If I’m just trying to get an old unit that is stuck in heat mode to change over to AC can I switch it manually with a magnet ? Like will it stay in AC mode as long as it isn’t turned to heat or does the valve usually move back and forth each time the unit kicks on and off ? Thanks so much for an awesome video.

Just inquiring about the coil connector. Is there a polarity on the connector or is it just one wire in and then one wire out back to the board?

For me it's stay blinking in heat mode and won't start the pump some times it starts but mostly stuck in blinking but in cold mode it runs normally ?

I have a carrier Ch14nbo36-B My unit outside keeps running nonstop the thermostat is on Aux Heat. I looked outside the small copper lines that run into the house where the rubber boot is I see oil and it's oil on the grass and line ( Yes it's cold in the house) I don't know where to start to check first with this pump. No frost on the condenser, the fan runs like crazy

Sorry, the magnet won’t move the valve because there is no pressure differential unless the unit s running. Reversing valves sometimes stick because of a low charge with insufficient pressure difference.

I'm not a HVAC guy but I know how to bypass a defrost board in 5 minutes to know for sure

This guy should also tell you its a temporary fix. You could be facing the same exact problem a few days later or months but its indeed temporary. Or you could luck out like this guy. I doubt he didn't have another problem with it.
