For me programming is like legos, I love thinking of new things on the go and I'm always a little sad when I finish a project

Good tip about giving yourself extra time. Just because you CAN do something in 5 hours doesn't mean the client/your boss needs to know that. Giving yourself buffer time means not only do you have time in case of scope creep or unexpected issues, but you're also managing expectations for the future. That way, you aren't put in a situation where you're expected to turn something around quickly because you've been able to in the past.

The worst part of being a programmer is when you're coding and want a cup of coffee but it's finished 😂😂

Yes, it affected me at the beginning of my career. My managers gave the freedom to implement new features and modules and came up with a lot of amazing ideas, but I couldn't implement all of them because of short deadlines... As a result, I only had few of them ready to go and my self esteem suffered a lot.

This is why control and scope signoff is part of project managment.

The planning phase is supposed to be long, so you understand whats needed BEFORE implementation starts. It saves time down the road.

Yes. I tend to fall into this mistake. I end up creating multiple products and versions of the main project.

It can be easily remedied by locking the product owner in a cupboard for the duration of the project.

My project manager trainer told me one time. There is no such thing as scope creep it is often scope gallop.

Easier said than done man, clearly defining the scope itself is something most developers struggle with because they have a tech minded bias, they don't understand what the non tech savvy customers mean when they say something they want

My job is basically to be that middle guy, but trust me, not an easy gig

I guess first define the scope and deadline, then everything that gets requested by the client you put that on a wait-list. After you've completed the project, you go and go to that wait-list, and have the client give you their offers for completing things on that list.

At my old job I was tasked with migrating old laravel blade/vanilla JS code into vue components, one for each page. I had a blast. I was fixing up old bugs, making sure everything was working. And we had a long enough feature freeze for me to get most of it before they just decided to lay me off anyway

I just realized that i may have to move my project from one programming language to python because the project got more complicated and requires API's to communicate with javascript and my main programming language is python.

This is actually our problem right now with our thesis. Some of the panelist kept pressuring us on adding new features and functionalities, even though it is already out of our scope. BTW we are only given 1 month time for development.. It sucks..

That shut down a company I had worked with, after the lead programer left for Taiwan.
(It was a simple functional firmware, in the 3 months following the guys departure, the others kept adding features and promises till the product failed
