Some accenting mistakes that slipped past:

κρικός (instead of κρίκος)
στην καθημερινότητα μας (instead of στην καθημερινότητά μας)
τό ότι υπάρχει (instead of το ότι υπάρχει)
τα κατοικίδια του (instead of τα κατοικίδιά του)

I've noticed that almost every Greek when talking about Europe implied only Northern Europe but I think we from the Mediterranean countries can play a just as important role in the formation of a Paneuropean culture. Greetings from Italy

As an outsider (British), I see Greece as uniquely Greek, and that is a good thing. I worry that, in an attempt to "fit in" with the dominant parts of Europe (France/Germany), Greece may begin to lose its "je ne sais quoi". Greece has an authenticity that many more "polished" (forgive the term) European countries lack - this is what makes it so attractive. I think that "becoming European" involves becoming globalised which, unfortunately, encourages cultural homogenisation and a loss of authenticity. Look at England - little is left of the traditions that we are known for. They now exist merely to satisfy tourists, or are perpetuated in media such as "Downton Abbey". As globalisation takes over, local culture is reduced.

To me, Greece is unfamiliar and familiar simultaneously. It has enough "exotica" to be exciting, but it is not so different that one feels out of place.

The number one thing that I find hardest to deal with is the family structure. Gender roles seem to be more fixed, adult children tend to stick closely with their immediate family, and there is an overall patriarchal organisation. This can be quite hard for a northern European where such close family groups are not so common.

- Just my two pennorth.

I'll say this; everyone you interviewed in Greece sounds much more thoughtful, insightful and well-informed than the average American...and I'm an American.

I am Portuguese and I feel a lot like Greeks. Although I am totally pro-Europe, there's a certain wildness that we, Mediterraneans have and that's changing. There are lesser people throwing trash on the street and we don't yell all the time. But that has only changed in my generation. People who are older or stupider still throw trash on the street or act like the environment is something that only the others should care about. On the other hand, our food and hospitality is waaaay better than those in the so-called really developed countries 😁. That's why I love Greece. And the weather is better too. Agapo h Ellada!

I noticed they link the word Europe to the Nordic culture and separate it from the Mediterranean culture from Latin countries. Greeks are a lot closer to the Mediterranean culture, hence why they may feel they're not European. It's interesting how different countries have different views on outside culture. Here in Brazil, you think about Europe and the first thing that comes to mind is the Mediterranean and even Greece.

Greece is literally the more “Europe” you can get, “Europe” itself comes from Greek mythology, Greece is the birthplace of “Europe”

Great topic! I love this channel. As an African American living in Greece learning the language the culture, I was asking this exact topic to a fellow Greek friend last night. I love all the many different perspectives people gave!

We are Greeks and we are unique. We have our fascinating history and culture and we don't need to belong nowhere.

American here and I visited Greece (Athens, mostly) - and for me, I would say Mediterranean first and then European. Surprised by many of their responses.
