PEREGRINE FALCON is the Fighter Aircraft in the Animal World. The Fastest Animal on the Planet.
The falcon family includes 60 species from the smallest pygmy falcons to the largest gyrfalcons. And they are all fast or very fast, but if we talk about speed, then the hero of today's video leaves far behind not only his relatives, but also all animals on the planet. Today we will meet a peregrine falcon, a prudent and fearless hunter who definitely deserves your attention. Let's start.
The peregrine falcon is a predatory member of the falcon family that lives in almost all corners of our planet with the exception of Antarctica. He doesn't exceed the size of a hooded crow. Body length ranges from 34 to 50 centimeters. The wingspan reaches 120 centimeters, and the weight varies from 440 grams to one and a half kilograms, and the females are much larger than the males.
Peregrine Falcons are the largest falcon over most of the continent, with long, pointed wings and a long tail. Be sure to look at shape as well as size—long primary feathers give the Peregrine a long-winged shape. As with most raptors, males are smaller than females, so Peregrines can overlap with large female Merlins or small male Gyrfalcons.
Therefore, such a difference in weight. Peregrine Falcons catch medium-sized birds in the air with swift, spectacular dives, called stoops. In cities they are masterful at catching pigeons. Elsewhere they feed especially on shorebirds and ducks. They often sit on high perches, waiting for the right opportunity to make their aerial assault.
Peregrine falcons are distinguished by their strong constitution, sickle-shaped beak, pointed wings, powerful legs and a narrow rounded tail. They also have a characteristic contrasting color - a gray-black back and a white bottom with transverse dark stripes. The bird ca n live in river valleys along the shores of lakes and in mountainous areas at an altitude of 4000 meters. The peregrine falcon is extremely unpretentious in its habitat, he can live both in the cold conditions of the arctic tundra and in the hot climate of the tropics of Africa.

I had Merlin falcons nesting outside my apartment some years ago. I had no idea what a Merlin falcon even was at first. It was their call that would get me really worked up because it was so loud and would go on and on every evening. One day i decided to investigate and figure out what bird it was, when i found out it was a falcon, i didn't mind the noise anymore 😂
Several different occasions i would see them perched in an oak tree across the road plucking the feathers from a blue jay it was preparing to eat. Crazy thing is, they really aren't that much bigger than a blue jay..

Last fall I saw a peregrine falcon evicerate a morning dove from like 15 feet away. He saw me and flew another 30 feet off, but it was truly a cool sight. Probably my favorite animal

You are right that peregrines have the maximum speed among the predators

While walking in the woods I heard an unfamiliar noise above and behind me. A combination of a bottle rockets whistle, a flag flapping in the wind, and the whine of a jet engine. The decibel level was that of someone talking loudly. I turned to see what I believe was a peregrine with a smaller bird in its talons. A few feathers dropped from approximately 20 feet up as the birds departed. If this was a peregrine falcon I imagine it was traveling at attack speed and decelerated thus creating the noise. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

We get one from time to time in our church spire. No shortage of black headed and herring gulls here, but some poor sucker has to clean the church lawn of dismembered gulls of a Sunday morning!

Once I sat on the side of a mountain near Grasse just north of Nice in the south of France. Approximately 15 pigeons flew past in an frantic manner. a second later a whooshing sound pasted my left ear, it was the Peregrine falcon in delta mode. The pigeons flew into a tree and the falcon flew past. Missing it's meal at that time.

Good video. I would have to say that the Peregrine does have one enemy. That is the great horned owl. They will attack nest at night.
