Photosynthesis

Paul Andersen explains the process of photosynthesis by which plants and algae can convert carbon dioxide into useable sugar. He begins with a brief description of the chloroplast. He describes the major pigments in a plant (like chlorophyll a and b). He then describes both the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. He finishes with a discussion of photorespiration and strategies for avoiding this problem evolved in CAM and C4 plants.

He's so talented at explaining things. Thanks for helping millions of people on YouTube as opposed to helping a smaller majority as a teacher in high school.
You are a trillion dollar teacher. Thanks for that.

It's always amazed me how scientists are able to discover these things on such a microscopic level

When your bio teacher actually tells you to watch these videos instead of teaching it himself. Honestly tho this helps so much more

Finally someone that is translating what a textbook teaches us.
thank you.

Thumbs up if you watch this the day before a biology test...

You and CrashCourse, man. My Bio professors have been lecturing for the past two weeks, and it's done nothing for me. You two? I'm not so scared for my exam tomorrow. Thank you. Like, I can't express the correct amount of gratitude I have.

It takes some kind of talent to be able to explain this concept so clearly and effectively while having a laid back attitude within 15 minutes whereas other teachers can't even convey this message after hours of lectures.

I heard you won teacher of the year a couple years ago. Congratulations! Also, thanks so much for the great learning/teaching resource you provide to all of us science students and our teachers.

In 12 minutes and 26 seconds, you have taught me everything I needed to know compared to my enriched bio teacher who taught this to us in 2 weeks. Thank you so much!

You literally sumarized a whole chapter in my textbook in twelve minutes!! THANK YOU MUCHHHH!!!

You are a truly gifted teacher! Slow, step by step breakdown, well illustrated and with good cross-reference and a fair amount of redundancy. Great pace. Thank you!!!

They couldn't just stop with "Plants make oxygen" like we learned in third grade, could they?

I wish this guy was my biology teacher. I learn more from him than I have in any of my biology lectures.

if anyone needs simple steps of photosynthesis...

1. light comes in
2. the light powers electrons through etc
3. those electrons go through proteins
4. these electrons pump protons
5. the electrons go through atp synthase
6. the electrons make atp

AT OR NEAR THE SAME TIME
1.water comes in
2. water splits into hydrogen and oxygen
3. oxygen diffuses
4. hydrogen ions are used to make energy

LATER IN THE CALVIN CYCLE
1. ATP and NADPH are there partying it up
2. 1 carbon molecule fuses with 5 rubisco
3. This compound mixes with ATP to form G3P
4. G3P makes rubisco and the cycle starts over

YOU ARE MY SAVIOR! After going to my college plant science class 4 times a week I found that I learned more about photosynthesis and cellular respiration from your shorter videos than any of those damn classes. I have my exam over this stuff tomorrow and for any reason I pass its thanks to you Bozeman!

It seems hard to find excellent biology lessons on YT without political or religious commentary. Thank you so much for such great lessons.

Here I am, having watched your videos a year ago in high school biology class, now using them to study for my college exam tomorrow. Thank you Mr. Andersen. You have really helped me learn this material.
