The goal of Christendom’s English Language and Literature Department is to foster in students a lifelong love for seeking the true, the good, and the beautiful, and to give students the practical interpretive skills and the knowledge of literary history, poetics, and the critical tradition to nourish that love. The coursework demands study in a wide range of genres and literary periods--from the foundational ancient Greek and Latin classics, to the heroic poems of medieval Europe, through the sonnets and plays of the Renaissance, to the great novels, short stories, and lyric poems of Europe and America.
