I don't think I'd put a bone in my dog's brain

The only clothes my pit is ever in is her dark grey/black skull sweater that isn't bright or restricting but it's only for keeping her warm during the winter ^-^

I have been a dog trainer for 28 years now and you are pretty close to correct on most of the behaviors of your video. Glad to see a video that's at least close to the truth of dog behavior and communication .

Ear cropping is shitty because I think the dog looks worse if they cut the ears. If they leave the ears the dog looks way cuter. Same thing with tail cropping. I hate it. My uncle got a giant schnauzer and the breeder already cropped both the ears and tail before my uncle got the dog. Whenever he's happy, his little stub-tail wags and it's kinda sad. I REALLY hate ear/tail cropping. A LOT.

Dude my dog shivers if she doesn't have her little coat on. It's loose and comfy and she literally asks me for it. I think dressing a dog for temperature purposes is okay. Some dogs can't stand low temperatures and need a coat of sweater so that they don't get too cold. I understand the other ones though (though if a dog is being an ass I will hit it on the snout, specially if it's threatening my dog.)

Cropping and docking are thankfully illegal in my country. You'd have to be a particular type of cruel to want to amputate parts of your pet for nothing more than looks.

Ear cropping is just pure evil and should be illegal

I rescued my pit bull named Ranger. He was going to be a fighting dog until my father and neighbors called the police because of him having fights in his yard he was in prison for 10 years he just got out. His ears were also cropped from the original owner. My dog is the sweetest thing ever he is friendly with other dogs and people.

Sorry, but just no. One of the first things that I've taught my dogs are to let me take food away from them without them biting. And most of them learned to 'give-me' command where they just dropped it. I don't teach them with their supper that I've just given them, but it is still a command that they need to know. I don't want my dog eating something that I'm not 100% sure is safe and dogs will pick up anything, anywhere.

Yes, you should be able to take your dog's food away - What if they are eating something they shouldn't be? What if you accidentally give them the wrong food when they are on a restricted diet?

The key is that your dog should have a positive association with their food being touched by you. What does that mean? Well, my dogs know that if i take their food bowls up before they have finished, it means that something really nice is going to be added to their food and then they will get it back anyway!

it is very easy to create such an association, especially if you start from puppyhood.

I've gotten grief from people because my dog has a 1/2 normal tail. He was born that way. He's a stumpy tailed Australian Cattle dog. Not exactly the most common breed, but not unheard of.

3:08 I have a pit bull with cropped ears. My mom got him when he was 8 and he already had cropped ears, and my entire family agrees that if we could reverse it, we would in a heartbeat. Since we can’t do that, instead, we give him lots of love. ❤️

There's a lot of dumb points that are just wrong in this video.

1. I live in a cold area, in order for people to be able to walk their smaller and less furry dogs they absolutely NEED to dress them or they'll freeze their butt off.

2. Tapping the nose if fine, but it shouldn't really be needed for correction. Any sound or touch will do as long as you've taught the dog that it means they're being corrected. But the dog won't ever become aggressive because of playful tapping of the nose in games etc.

3. Especially when they're puppies it's actually quite a good idea to get them used to humans sometimes doing things they find a bit strange. Briefly removing their food, perhaps running your hand through the bowl, removing things from their mouths etc. These are things you will have to do sometime in their life anyway for whatever reason, so it's a good thing to get them used to that sort of thing happening. If they're uncomfortable just let them continue eating but this time from your hand, that helps building trust around food while still teaching them to accept that you gotta do what you gotta do.

4. Mutilating your dog however is seriously messed up and you should be mutilated too for it. An ear for an ear.

Don't dress dogs up like they're barbie dolls but if it's cold and/or wet outside, they need some protection. Some breeds do just fine in the cold but some breeds really do need a sweater and a raincoat. Try it on the dog before you buy it to make sure your dog doesn't seem too uncomfortable in it. My dog doesn't enjoy the process of putting on a sweater or taking it off but once it's on, she's fine. She doesn't care. And we don't tend to run into many other dogs on rainy or snowy days, so confusing other dogs hasn't been a problem.

Actually, you should be able to take a dog's food away. Food guarding can be very dangerous to both humans and dogs. If you're adopting a dog and you don't know if they're protective of their food, be very very careful with this. But if you can't take away a dog's food without getting bit, then you can't save a dog's life without getting bit. If a dog can get to dangerous poisonous food, it will. Dogs can be picky eaters but it's unusual for a dog to turn their nose up at chocolate. Even bitter unsweetened chocolate. There are plenty of other things your dog shouldn't be eating and so you should always be able to take away whatever your dog is trying to eat.

Yeah, I'm not into ear cropping. It should be banned. I don't know why it's part of breed standards.

Not into tail docking either. Even though some breeds are more susceptible to breaking their tails, it's still not a guarantee that all dogs of that breed will break their tails if left undocked. But at the same time, a broken tail is extremely painful and can possibly traumatize the dog.

Taking your puppy's food bowl away is meant to only be long enough for them to notice. You are then supposed to then ask them to do something simple, like sit, pet them, and then give them something tastier than plain food. This technique is meant to be used on young puppies to desensitize them to the presence of people around their food, which can be useful if you need to take away something they're eating, especially so if that something is poisonous.

1. Many dogs like being clothed, some for warmth some for anxiety. Just avoid tight restrictive clothing. Also bright colors don't matter when it comes to dogs, they don't have the same color perception people do.
2. You can tap a dogs nose with a soft toy to get them to play but overall avoid the nose, you're right.
3. You should be able to take food from your dog. When you have a puppy it should be hand fed for a couple of weeks and you should practice the "drop it" command. This is important to keep your dog from being food aggressive and it gives the owner the ability to take potentially harmful objects from a dogs mouth without being bit.
4. Ear cropping isn't my cup of tea but done right by a qualified vet at a young age- it doesn't hurt the dog. Problem is most ear cropping is done by ordinary people with no medical experience, leaving most dogs to suffer afterwards from pain and or infection.
5. Tail docking is important for many country dogs, especially those who may come into contact with coyotes, wolves, badgers, and so on- if your dog scraps with them, it will loose it's tail or in the very least receive a painful injury along it's tail normally. Even a dog left near large livestock risks it's tail being nipped or stepped on and crushed.
Overall docking has it's uses but as with ear cropping, it should be done by a professional at a young age.

My small Maltese dog loves dressing up, he drags his clothes for me to put it on him. Lies, all dogs are different.
