Goof off works really well on irons because it removes everything, even paint if not careful. They look brand new every time.

Suggestion for next time, dipping the clubs past refuel is going to cause the glue inside to rust eventually the head club will fly off after so much use. You only need a wet microfiber towel and a brush with metal bristles to clean the grooves. Also sometimes you can get the head clubs polished which will make them look in better condition.
