You do purchase for a bride as in the OT. That's why you see men "marry", while women are "given in marriage". It's not a mutual decision, the girl (average 12 years old) had no choice in it.

" 3 You must not intermarry with them. Do not GIVE your daughters to their sons or TAKE their daughters for your sons, " - Deut 7:3

That's why if a man seduces a virgin, the father can refuse to GIVE her, but the man still has to PAY the bride price.

" 16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged and goes to bed with her, he must surely PAY the marriage price for her to be his wife.

17 If her father refuses to give her to him, he must pay money for the bride price of virgins." - Ex 22:16-17

And that language of men marry while women given into marriage goes into the NT...

" 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry [men] nor are given in marriage [women], but are like angels in heaven. " - Matt 22:30

" 38 So then he that GIVES her in marriage does well; but he that gives her not in marriage does better." - 1 Cor 7:38
