One thing worth noting is that if you're interested in building this rig, test out the phone connection as a monitor first because I know a lot of people have problems with connections and frame drops. If you're looking for a cheap monitor to add instead I've added 2 in the description. 1 is my fav cheap monitor by portkeys, and another is currently on sale for only $60

Nice rig. Will get the amateur to start thinking like a pro. One way to make a client think your cheap setup is an expensive camera with all those parts attached. Excellent video, really enjoyed it.

The way you attach tripod plate with cheese plate blew my mind. I’ve been looking for a cheap alternative for v mount battery.Really useful and affordable.

Monitor+ can work via hdmi. Camera -> hdmi cable -> cheap usb hdmi capture device (looks like flash stick, and 1080p enough) -> usb a to c otg cable -> smartphone. This setup doesn't lag instead of sony app via wi-fi.

I don’t know ANYTHING about how to edit photos, but the before and after on your Instagram is crazy!

It's pretty cool. If i were starting over i would probably do something like this. Sometimes its pointless because you know it doesnt REALLY make the camera any better, you dont suddenly becyase a cinematographer just because you have a rigged out camera, but I think its a good Idea for people who have that goal in mind to start working with cameras in that form factor. I started on a Canon T3i, its all I could afford right out of college, and i bought a cheap top handle for it and i ran with a monitor and cheat top handle for a LONG time, Now im shooting on much more expensive gear but the ergonomics are similar enough to the way i "rigged" it out that the skills and muscles i was developing from handheld shooting transferred up with me.

Already had a lot of that gear (including the sigma 16). So figured for $100 all in let’s give it a shot. Thanks for the video!

10 years ish ago...all i would do is watch sony a6000 videos and @jasonlanier styled content...rigging out a 5dm2 turned hollywood cinematography upside down...and then tangerine with iPhone cinematography flipped it back again. now...i think we are all chasing the impossible how to do everything as a solo operator... loved the video...its a very manageable baby frankenstein rig... and clients will definitely pay the cinema rental day rate...hehehehe...

This is great I was trying to build one cheaper than 500 from your previous video and now you’ve done it. Thank you. Great giveaway too.

This video had a lot of good information for a newbie like me. I have a Nikon D5200 that I originally bought for still photography when I made the transition from film to digital. But then I realized that it could also be used for video. So I wanted to adapt it for that purpose with some basic video accessories like a handle and a better battery and a tripod mount. Also I wanted a monitor and perhaps a better mic. Now I know how to attach all that gear to the camera.

Hey! I love the builds, just got my ZVe10ii and am working up a build, thanks for putting these together for the newbies! 1 suggestion for ya, black shirt background and black parts make it tricky at times to see what we are looking at or how they go together. Otherwise, excellent vid

This camera was not on my radar before I started watching your channel. It looks like a nice option that would tick off some check marks that I have when looking to upgrade my current camera (Canon Rebel T5). Thank you for excellent content that is relevant and thoughtful.

Great breakdown, didn't think of using a phone as a monitor. I have some old smart phones I can use meanwhile. Great video.

Really fun video, Thomas. I really appreciate the walkthrough. I hadn't seen the $500 video, but I'll go sniff it out to see how you solved for $250. So fun!

This looks almost exactly how my ZVE10 rig looks! I do have a Viltrox DC-550 monitor but I also use the image app when I need a secondary screen. I love people’s reactions when they see my rig lol it adds to my excitement of building rigs😅
