When I was a child in Brinkley, Arkansas I had a friend whose father owned a black nightclub next to the railroad tracks. The nightclub was named " The White Swan". One
day I went into the club with my friend. This was probably 1964. I remember seeing a
polaroid photo of Diana Ross and the Supremes pinned to a bulletin board in the dressing
room. The room was certainly not what I expected to see Ms. Ross in! But there they were,
pictured on the makeshift stage of The White Swan! They were all wearing sleek white gowns. The White Swan burned to the ground maybe 50 years ago. I've always remembered that photo of the most famous and the most beautiful woman I had ever seen
in a podunk farming community in mid-Arkansas. I've always hoped that I'd meet Diana Ross one day and that I'd have the opportunity to ask her if she recalled her early days when she and the Supremes were travelling the small towns to get their names "out there".
Later, in 1978 or 79 I saw her in concert in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A long way from Brinkley, Arkansas! Without doubt, one of the most exciting and memorable concerts I have
ever seen! Ms. Ross is not a star. She's a Mega Star. What a privilege to have actually seen her in concert!
