My wife is a gastroenterology nurse and she sat in on my first colonoscopy. We keep the magic alive.

The look on your son's face when Penn chugged two cups of polyethylene glycol solution in 4 seconds was absolutely priceless. Who said Gen X is the slacker generation? 🤣

The prep is by FAR the worst part. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. And remember, never trust a fart when prepping.. :)

I have regular colonoscopies since my Mum had colon cancer when she was 69. The tumour was removed and she lived to be a few days short of 101. She loved life and was a very happy survivor. Before my colonoscopies, I watch Billy Connelly’s video of his version of colonoscopy preparation. It is hilarious!

Proud of you! I had mine a little over a year ago when I turned 45. I had had one 12 years prior for some digestive issues and it had been clear. This was the start of regular screening and was totally clear again so don’t need to go back for 10 years!! Wahoo! Sadly, we have a good friend who is dying of colon cancer that spread. He was only 40 when diagnosed so too young for regular screening. No symptoms until it had spread really far. Another friend went for his first at age 48 just days ago and he had a malignant mass removed and is starting treatment soon. No symptoms, not high risk. So it’s really important to get screened! Hopefully someone sees this and decides to get screened

First ever mammogram Oct 1st 2024, 2nd mammogram and ultrasound Oct 8th. 2 biopsies Oct 14th, Oct 22nd definitely CANCER, meeting with the oncologist, surgeon, and dna specialist. Nov 18th bilateral mastectomy. Dec 12th cancer free! So I’ve got the rest of my life to look forward to, but boy that was a hard couple months!

I got my colonscopy 3 years ago and am on the 5 year plan due to benign polyps. It is a life-saving diagnostic test.

When my Dad needed brain surgery he did the same thing when he woke up. He looked at my Mom and said, "I changed my mind, I don't want to go through with the surgery.". She had to inform him that the surgery was over & successful.

My colonoscopy last year found a mass. It was cancer. But I had surgery and they removed 18” of my colon. No radiation, no chemo. Now I will go every year for a colonoscopy. The only symptoms I had was blood in my stool one month before my colonoscopy. One time.
Get your colonoscopy, friends.
Glad you did it, Penn! I’m a big advocate of them. 😊

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m a similar aged man in the UK and have booked a Doctors appointment TODAY, due to problems with going to the toilet so often. I watched the video before visiting the Doctor and it’s helped ease that background anxiety that you talk about. Hopefully things will go well. Thank you again.

Good for you, Penn. I had mine done a month ago; two polyps were removed. I remember the anesthesiologist saying "this might be a little cold, " as she started the IV, and then the nurse saying, "You want some apple juice." The prep is awful, but worth it for good health.

I am so glad you shared this video. Thank you so much. My father passed away from colon cancer in 2022. If he had his colonoscopy earlier than maybe he would still be here today.
