Fluval 406 Review (In my opinion from using 305)

After using the 305 series for 5 years or so, I have purchased 406, and this is my review of the upgrades, and what my thoughts are...overall very good filter, slightly quieter, and better aqua stop....

Guys there's a reason he has three canister filters, yea the discus are overstocked, but with his filtration and weekly water changes the tank will be okay.

Tank is immensely overstocked, and immensely over-filtered even while being overstocked, which is saying something.
Hope you got a lot of those fish out of there shortly after.

I’m interested in this filter but is the output flow too strong for angelfish? Your discus look fine and I don’t see any of the outflow. How did you do it

I don't get it!! FLUVAL was making this filter (or its pre model) with the black plastic intake and outflow. Why they changed it to a eye sore semi transparent plastic with a white marble - which makes it even that much more of an eye sore - I have NOOO idea - YET the FX series out and in take tubes are still black... Are we short on the black pigmentation or is this an added expense to turn (semi) clear plastic into black?

Help please, iv a 195 litre corner tank with fluval 306 cannister filter.cannister and media, polishing pads, charcoal sack replaced but still getting an algae bloom with cloudy water, fish and snails all seem fine, the problem must be the hoses, inlet and outlet, but how do you disconnect them without flooding the lounge ? Would be so grateful for advice.

Your hoses look way to long, they should run in a strait path to the aquarium. Having loops in the hose decreases efficiency.

I am planning on buying a All Pond Solutions 1000EF Aquarium External Filter with a flow rate of 1000lph and was thinking that was to power full then seeing that you have 3 pumps that can do a 300liter tank each that's a lot of water flow

are you running 3 filters? I see another canister behind the 406

I have seen people go nuts trying to get rid of the nitrates / nitrites in their tanks with all sorts of treatments. Why not just replace the WATER? Obviously a 50% water change removes 50% of your nitrates / nitrites. With Discus, you have to change the water quite often anyway, so nitrates / nitrites should not be a problem. I must say though.. I had a recent DISASTER with my discus. I had 8 of them. An idiot dumped a massive amount of food into the tank. I didn't notice that for over a day. When I did.. 7 of my 8 discus were dead! All the other fish in the tank survived though. Discus need clean clean clean.. water. If you have high nitrates, your discus have already died from the dirty tank before your nitrates got high. My mistake was thinking that nobody would dump half a cannister of food into the tank.

Prob woulda just went with the fx6 i have one on my 75 along with chemi pure media i had the 405 on there also but the 406 had got a leak...love you tank tho

That tank is to small for those discus they can’t move much but lovely fish
