Typhoon Gaemi also exacerbated rains in the Philippines, flooding the capital, Manila, and nearby cities, forcing authorities to shut schools, offices and prompting authorities to declare a state of calamity.

The Philippines are used to typhoons, but this is getting worse, not to mention the oil spill today. The more fossil fuels we burn, the warmer the sea surface temperature, and the stronger the cyclones.
